Seats uncomfortable

I've only driven my new to me G Sport on two road trips, but it will see 5K a month so I sure hope to figure this out.

Seats are really uncomfortable....in particular the bolster around my thighs. Can't seem to find a comfortable position and I'm not a huge guy....5'7 170lbs.

Anyone feel the same way? I did a search and read about some mod?

I keep mine in the flattest position possible for comfort, but they're still tight around my thighs.

If I have my thighs inside of them they aren't too tight, but its just natural for me to sit with a wider stance during a long drive. Having my thighs resting on top of them just isn't that comfortable. Is it something you get used to?

Read about a mod where someone had the metal inside the bolsters removed to make them flatter.

Hold the phone here folks, I may be on to something.

Talked to my buddy who owns an upholstery shop today. Said he is very familiar with the issue - just fixed one last week.

Looks like some people have modded their seats by removing the actual bolsters.

Apparently when the foam hits the bracket it pushes through and the pain is caused by your leg being against metal.

As opposed to cutting them out and getting no bolster at all, he covers them with a mesh and repacks the foam. He can add a little more if required. The mesh keeps the foam from pushing through again.

For $100 I'm all in. It will be a few weeks before I can get that way as he lives a few hours from me, but I'll give it a shot and report back. Probably sooner than later as these long drives are pissing me off.

Its in Topeka, Kansas actually. I'm from KC and just moved to OKC....but will make a trip back some weekend to have him fix it.

I'm sure any good shop can do it. I called three local ones today and they were like.....uh...yeah I guess we can do that. Figured I'd take my car somewhere else with that response.

Update:

Went to a local upholstery shop just for ***** and grins - they confirmed my recent thoughts. The design of the seat CAN cut through the foam and have you sitting on metal, but that is not the case with my car. It isn't old enough that this has occured yet - the foam is simply stupid hard.

I went and drove an IS 250 today as a potential replacement should I not get this resolved. The car certainly is a inferior car compared to the G - less power and less aminities for more money - but feels 1000X more comfortable. The seats feel like a nice leather couch - even the IS-F (no, I didn't buy it) has tight bolsters but feels very comfortable.

I measured the distance between the bolsters. The G is 14 inches in the front, 13 in the middle, and a little over 12 in the rear. The IS 250 is the same - so its not that the seat is too tight and designed for Japenese drivers - its just too damn hard.

I called my upholstery guy and he said he can put some softer foam in the bolsters and make the seat as good as the Lexus. Tab will definitely go up, but will be well worth it.

I sure hope I can figure this out because the Acura and Lexus just aren't as good as the G. No other car gives you the power and features for the same money.

I did discover that if you put the seat back more and extend the base my legs stance is narrower and thus puts less pressure on the bolsters.

My seat is also pretty uncomfortable. (non-sport, though) Anyone know of anywhere in Denver to get the seat worked on? I'm anxious to see if anyone is able to improve on it.

I have a sport and I agree that the seats are a bit uncomfortable. Particularly my left thigh. I have found a trade off...if I sit with my legs close together and stretched out...it's not too bad. But...the only way I can accomplish this acrobatic fete is to lift my nut sack and position it on top of my thighs. Trade off of one discomfort for another.

Ok boys and girls I've got an update.

Took the seat to my buddy and picked it up today. I didn't get to see the pix yet, but he said that at 25K my seat was destroyed on the passenger side - almost no foam left. I was basically sitting on the frame. He repacked both sides with a little more foam to prevent me from sitting right on the foam, and used a softer foam.

Just drove it five hours and its much improved, although still some room to go. I think the foam simply wasn't soft enough - still doesn't feel like the IS 250 couch.

Just dropped him a line to see if we can do it again with even softer foam. Regardless, a huge improvement.

And I'll gladly pay it again if I need to get some softer foam put in.
