New G owner here...looks like M1 is really popular with this engine. If I can still order Amsoil through my corporate account I will, but otherwise I'll probably go with M1 or Penzoil Plat. or Ultra, depending on price. Prolly PureOne or K&N for the filter.

rinaldi: what do you pay to have dings pulled out at the dealer? I've got a couple and was wondering what a resonable price would be.

 

slightly off topic....what about tranny fluid, differential and transfer case fluids? What to you guys recommend? Stay with the Nissan stuff or go aftermarket, like Amsoil, RP, Redline, etc?

I've got 55k mi. on my 07 g35x and was thinking she's about due for a round of fluids.

 

Everything can be an equivalent, but keep the tranny fluid OEM (Matic-S).

 

I have my appointment on Wednesday, but the service adviser told me for 2 it would be about $85. To me that is dirt cheap. I paid about $100-$125 per ding on my wife's CX9 back in the midwest.

I was also surprised I had a wheel repair shop come to my house today and repair one wheel that had some minor curb rash and they did it for $125. I live way out in the desert and the wheel was entirely repainted and cleared. The owner before me had the wheels custom painted by this company. They do great work and I am thinking of having my wife's Mazda CX9 wheels painted.

I just bought this car and it had just the 2 minor issues that would drive me insane unless I fixed them. Back to the original question-I was quoted $85. I can confirm on Wednesday the actual true cost.

$85 does sound like a good deal for 2 dings. Especially at an Infiniti dealer.

30-35k on the diff.

 

After reading this whole post and being a noobie to the V36 I am going with a Wix filter and Mobil 1 oil. I also ordered the Fumoto drain valve. So I will be doing my first oil change on my X next week.

 

Diff every 30K or so.

Xfer case . . . IDK, since I don't have an X.

Has your tranny fluid ever been serviced in its 55k miles?

I just changed/"refreshed" the fluid in an 08 G37S with 34K miles and was surprised at the darkness of the fluid. It wasn't fully brown, you could still see some slight pinkish tint to it, but it sure wasn't just nice and pink either (as I had been expecting). This seemed odd to me as I know the car has never been driven hard in its entire life. After calling a few dealers in the area, the consensus was that you should just do a refresh every 30K miles by just draining the pan and then refilling what you took out (I netted almost 5 quarts, 4q + 26oz.) through the dipstick tube. This is a very easy DIY procedure. They were a bit more vague about what to do after longer intervals.

If you've gone a whole 55K with no service though, you may want to consider the next step (usually done by a shop), which is where a machine is used that Tees into the external hydraulic line and then, with the engine running, dirty fluid is bled out of the system while fresh fluid is being fed back in simultaneously. With this method, you can pretty much do a complete fluid replacement. It is more expensive, but it's very effective.

Depending on how dirty your fluid is, I'd talk to a dealer and see what they'd recommend to ensure there's never any dispute about warranty.

PS. be prepared to pay through the nose for the ATF. I haggled them down to $10 a quart which pretty much equaled the cheapest online prices once shipping is added.
