New '08 G35x Owner!

Greetings to all of you fellow G owners!

Almost two months ago now I purchased an '08 G35x with 38k and premium package. I have been LOVING it everyday and when I'm not driving it I'm thinking about the next time I can.

I want to thank all of you on the forum who contribute to the knowledge, atmosphere, and overall friendliness of this forum. It has been a great deal of help in my pre-ownership and ownership days.

Out of previous experience, I would guess ~90% of you wouldn't approve of or personally purchase a rebuilt car yourselves. I, however, have had great luck with buying/selling in this risky market and enjoy doing so. With that said, I purchased my G35x for $16k cash and feel I received an awesome deal. It was involved in a front collision (no radiator, support, airbag, etc damage) and also had the rear bumper replaced. The car had no drive train damage and literally only had impact to the front and rear bumpers. It was repaired by an E-bayer in Chicago and I had a flawless experience with them and feel just as confident today as I did on day #1. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle other then two small issues I will share in a moment. I share this information with you so that you can get an understanding of my ownership. I enjoy learning how others have acquired their G's as well.

I upgraded from a rebuilt '06 Magnum SRT-8.... It was a fun vehicle and had a ridiculous amount of power. However, 425hp RWD in Iowa as a DD isn't that safe!

This is my old place with no garage.... :-(

My old car with my two brother's cars:

I still had F1 Supercar tires on it too...imagine that much snow, summer tires, and RWD... I did manage to only get stuck once and it was in a parking lot no less! I really did enjoy the vehicle and thoroughly miss the power. However, the overall driving experience was much less desired then this G35.

50% (100% Metallic) tint done in Des Moines, Iowa. I didn't want it too dark and this picture actually makes it seem much darker than it normally is.

Safe in the garage.... I haven't decided on a new license plate yet so please bare with me!

My car sitting next to my brothers...The exact same except mine has the premium package... that and he paid $8k more.

I hope you enjoyed the eye candy. I don't plan on doing any modifications so I hope that doesn't disappoint all of you! I do wish it had the sport wheels but I can live with these.

My only two small issues with the car I realized after a few weeks are:

The trunk button doesn't work. I push it and it just doesn't do anything. I was thinking it had to maybe be reprogrammed or something? That is until.... I realized the license plate light does not function. I replaced the bulb and realized it isn't receiving any power. The leads me to believe that some harness wasn't re-connected when the new bumper was installed? Is there some harness (possibly fuse?) that would cause this?

I look forward to being a part of this community and hope that there are some midwest meets planned as I enjoy being a part of those. Any/all help is greatly appreciated!

Austin

I should probably create a thread with those questions specifically but I dislike "crowding" the forums...

welcome! Is the g you got a rebuild title as well?
Do you brake lights work? Reverse lights? first I'd check all the fuses. If that doesn't pan out I'd check the FSM to see if lic plate light and trunk latch are on the same fuse - if so replace it, even if it doesn't look bad. If no rear lights work (you probably would have noticed that) I'd get a multimeter and see what has power and not by removing the trunk lid liner. Reverse lights are on the trunk lid so I'm curious if they work or not.

Yes, the vehicle is a rebuilt title as stated in my first post. The reverse and brake lights work as normal. When inspecting the vehicle I didn't even think to check the trunk button or license plate lights. I will check the fuse box in a bit here. Excuse my ignorance, but what is the FSM? The manual?

Yeah the manual. Just google around, you can find the PDFs of the fsm kicking around on another, sort of similar site to this that starts with an 'n'

Copy that, thanks. I just breezed through the manual and couldn't find any information leading to what is wired together in the fuse box. I'm going to just check in the fuse box.

On another note, I did see in the section about "replacing battery DIY" for the Ikey. I noticed it says "touching the positive/negative points of the battery will seriously reduce storage capacity. Handle the battery on it's sides while installing it." I wonder if this is the reason I have replaced the battery twice in less than two months....

Hahaha...Taking greyhound 8 hours through the night to Chicago wasn't exactly preferable!
