I posted this in the brakes forum but wasn't getting any love. So I thought I'd expand my audience to fellow owners of the 2nd gen sedan.
https://g35driver.com/forums/brakes-...rake-pads.html
In short, I went to change my front brake pads with a set of Hawk HPS I picked up some time ago. All the 4 pads had the same backing, and therefore the non piston side of the caliper, the side that looks like a two prong fork, is catching on the little tabs that stick out.
Any thoughts what I should do? can I just cut/sand those tabs off for that side and toss the shim?
I expected that pads to look like this...
http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...P_RecType%3aA)
Where the tabs that hold the shim in place vary for each side of the caliper. All 4 of the pads I got look like the top set, where the tabs are near the top and bottom of the pad.
I've only changed out brake pads twice in my life and never on this car, so I am no expert, and am kind of new to this. Just figured I could save a few bucks to do something that doesn't seem to be rocket science.
Thanks much.

Do you have some actual pictures of what you're talking about? I would not be hacking up pads to try to get them to fit. I would suspect you have the wrong part for your application. I think there is sport and non-sport pads--maybe there was a mixup. Also, a while ago, 2007s seem to be grouped with 1st gen for some reason, which messed up a lot of people.
FYI, I bought some Hawk ceramic pads for my 2007G35S and they fit perfectly.

Well, without pics, I can't tell exactly what you're referring to in regards to "tabs" on the pads you got. (the link for a pic isn't working) The correct pads should have little tabs with a socket for the wire spring pad spreaders, and then one of them should also have a pad wear indicator tab as well. Tell you what; since you went 4-5 months without any response to your thread, I'll see if I can post a few pics to show you what they should look like. Give me a minute.
Oh, and they do not use shims in the front. They're built in to the back of the pads.

I tried thinking about your question and comparing the pics in my head with your pics but I can't help. I just took a hit of herb to unwind from the day and can't get it together. lol guess I had to write something though.
