Updating Center Console

Hey guys. I looked for hours both on this site and others but only found a little information on the topic.

I own a 2007 G35 sedan and am starting some projects to update it and keep it looking fresh and sharp. One thing I really like about the 2010+ sedans is the update to the center console. What I really want to do is swap mine out, and put in one of the new ones. I'm not talking about the entire center console, here's some pictures:

First pic is 2007 interior, second is 2010. If you notice, the center console only changes from the ash tray back to the armrest. From what I can tell, the size of the center console from the ashtray to the armrest remained the same in both years.

What do you think? Do-able? I'd absolutely love this and think it would bring new life to the car.

Here's a link to an Ebay auction selling the 2010 console part I am talking about.

Thanks!

I test drove the 2010 and the arm rest was shaped different, I'm not certain if the new set up would fit with the current model.

I like the new console a little better but this is a mod I would do after many others. I would make sure all my ext and performace mods were completed before dropping $300 plus labor on it. Just my .02

the new center console definitely looks more elegant. I too am interested in going this route.

Looks like a worthwhile mod but will be tough to do perfectly.

Good luck.

Hmm .. .I actually prefer the older version better. I don't like the transition from the horizontal (shifter area) to the vertical (head unit/climate area). It appear to create and overhang with a cluttered up little cubby back in there. (I guess the ashtray is tucked down in there too?)

Regardless, I highly doubt the two will fit together. I could be wrong, but I'd be willing to bet.

Dont you have to get other stuff with this too? I think the seats has a fan under the seats to get your butt cool with those switches.

Definitely an interesting mod. I would be interested in the upgrade myself but i also feel that it would be an expensive mod to do perfectly.

Only thing I don't like is the fake chrome trim that runs along the side. A friend of mine has a 2010 and sun coming thru the sunroof and reflect off that straight into your eyes. Annoying as crap.

I agree with VQsmile...the older one seems to "FLOW" BETTER the newer ones seem to have some sort of overhang.

Something I really wish I could do is add an overhang above the navigation screen and have both that overhang and the instrument gauge overhang leather stitched. I think it would add a lot more class and depth to the G's dashboard.

the heater switch is a toggle switch in 07 compared toa rotating on on the 2010 ones, i see problems with the wiring there, unless u wanna go all out and mod that too

That's right, my 07 had High/Low. My new one has 6 settings.

I still prefer the overall look of the 07 AT console over the 10 AT console. Like they say, sometimes less is more. If there were a way to just update the heated seat switches I would do that and leave the rest alone.
I think my new MT console is the same as the 07MT, accept for the heated seat switches.
