Gloss finish with Plasti Dip or similiar product
I've seen dozens and dozens of posts in regards to Plasti Dip on grilles, diffusers, wheels, badges, etc. It seems the uses for this stuff on the G is endless. I only have one qualm with this stufff. It has a matte finish, even when clear coats are applied over it. I am going to be blacking out several things on the G and don't want to spend hundreds of dollars taking it to a shop but I want to accomplish a gloss black finish to match my grille (I used a gloss black spray instead of plasti dip), the black trim piece next to the windows (not the trim piece that goes all around) and the wheels I'll be getting in gloss black. Any suggestions on how to accomplish this? I'd like to do my rear diffuser, trunk lid piece and badges.
The highest amount of gloss and reflection can only be attained by a smooth finish, in which case you should just avoid PD altogether and go the traditional route -- paint and clear. If you're really handy with the can and wet-sanding/polishing, it's easy to accomplish your goal.
You can use vinyl wrap on everything you mentioned except the badges, pretty easy to apply and you can always peel it off if you want the chrome/paint back later or it's a lease, etc. Check out you tube for vinyl wrapping videos. I'm wrapping my window trim next week
autovinylsolutions.com has great deals on vinyl wrap BTW.
