got some warranty work done the other day
Got some warranty work done yesterday. Got a new steering wheel (asked about the paint chipping, but mine wasn't that bad really), new finishers on the doors(scratched up), a rattle fixed in the driver door when the bass was heavy, new instrument cluster lid (for the warpage) and a new headlight.
I couldn't get them to budge on the cracking sunroof rubber. Their main reasons for rejecting doing the fix, all bullshit (service advisor rolled his eyes and said 'the internet strikes again' and implied I was nuts for even bringing it up)
1) they never did it for anyone else before
2) since I was not the original owner, the prev owner didn't put enough silicone on it for upkeep and therefore not covered (again bs)
3) it would be a lot of work to fix (boohoo I say)
The headlight was funny, I told them I had aftermarket bulbs in and I tried 3 different ones and they wouldn't consistently turn on every time. They said my HID was malfunctioning. They said they can't get the part for the ballast or ignitor separate, so they got me a new headlight. After that they put in the aftermarket ones (it cames with a stock bulb in it) and still had the same problem, so yeah I guess I have 3 bad HID bulbs I got off a member here who was selling them with LED kits. I had a problem originally and he sent me another set, and they were bad too it seems (no name cheap HID 6k lights). They were cool about it and said next time make sure I have oem bulbs in there or it may not be covered when I bring it in.
I guess my only option on the sunroof would be to drive to san antonio or dallas and give it a shot there. Just trying to clear as much of this stuff up as possible before my warranty is up in feb.

^ ya I'm confused as to why they said that. Should we applying silicone to our sunroofs lol? It should not make a difference if you are the original owner or the fifth owner, warranty work is warranty work.

The service advisor said you need to silicone the rubber/plastic part around the glass. It seemed like bs to me. I didn' t push it since I had to be nice to get my other work done. It would be so nice to have 2 Infiniti dealers in austin - a little competition goes a long way!
The sunroof rubber is like any other rubber or plastic in your car (dash/door panels). A little dressing of your choice goes a long way, I don't know why folks are so amused that it's required or a good idea.
Austin Infiniti hooked you up though. I used to have to drive from FT Hood to get my car serviced there. Now I'm in Columbus and the drive is about the same distance to Atlanta. sighhhhh

I was actually advised AGAINST using any silicone or petroleum-based lubricants on the rubber seal, by the dealer itself, since the sun hits the sunroof directly and the compound will accelerate corrosion when exposed to direct sunlight. My dealer replaced the entire sunroof under warranty, and suggested I keep the area clean with regular soap/water, or non-petroleum-based cleaners.

^ Just goes to show how dealers are full of it. 1 says use it, other says don't. What gives?? Their claim of direct sunlight causes corrosion is insane to me, its rubber/plastic. What corrosion?
Agreed, the dealers messages are indeed conflicted, but it is a common fact that direct sunlight will cause deterioration of rubber/vinyl/plastic etc. Just go by an RV storage lot and look at all the wheel covers you see protecting the rubber tires. It is definitely real.
^ Oh yes I got the sunlight part, hence the reason you use protectant of choice. I was just trippin on the corrosion part but I guess they used the term to mean deterioation/dry rotting etc.
I took mine to the dealer a few times due to a grinding noise coming from my sunroof when i would open to vent. The dealer told me they couldnt do anything about it because my car was lowered and on 20's which caused a rougher ride and made the sunroof move around up there causing the rubber to dry out. I had taken it there about a month before for the same issue and they cleaned it. Opened the roof twice and the noise was back. That dealer told me to lube it everytime i was my car, so basically every week, cuz the rain can was it away. Took it to another dealer and they laughed called there sister dealer retards, but said they couldnt do anything about it. Every car i have own has had a sunroof, never lubed always washed weekly, never had an issue, first car i had was a 91 honda back in 04 and 08. Not one issue. Why does a $50k car all of a sudden need the sunroof lubed every week? makes no sense.

I agree the sunroof issue is BS. I'm glad mine has been trouble free so far. Probably because I rarely even use it though.
