MAX-ing out my engine!

Hey guys, if I wanted to get more HP out of my engine or even a faster response from the engine...what type of tune up or computer programming do I need to do? Or I can get done? I'm not much of a technician, so something which requires a lot of wiring and punching keys... Don't think I can do.

Any suggestions would help!

Figure out the bolt-ons you would like to add to your engine first...Intake/exhaust/header etc then get a tune from a respectable shop. I have an Uprev tune, and you can go to their website and check out who is certified around your area. There is also cobb, technosquare (if they still exist?), and bully dog.

Did you ever get your old issues with this car resolved?

I'm hearing lots of good things about this tune.....but am I safe to assume the dealers frown on it when it comes to warranty work?

Safe to assume that they WON'T frown on it, because they will not even know that it is installed unless, for some reason, they are re-installing your ecu. In that instance I am sure you will know before you even get the warranty work done. The tune is invisible and fvcking awsome.

I have an '08 G35 6MT that is bone stock that I want to keep looking that way but might be willing to spend $1k to $2k on improved performance if there are no significant risks or downsides. But I know absolutely nothing about this sort of thing, so would somebody be willing to give a "tuning for dummies" primer here (or is there one out there on the internet somewhere)?

Here are a few specific questions from a real newbie on these sorts of things:

1. What exactly are they doing when they "tune" the car or "reflash" the chip?
2. About what should this cost?
3. What are the cons/risks of having this done?
4. If this really helps performance with little or no risk, why isn't the car built this way in the first place? Mostly gas mileage compromises?
5. What, besides a simple tune, are fairly cost-effectivce and low-risk ways to enhance engine performance/power, and what are the associated costs and cons/risks?

Thanks!

btw a tune with no mods won't do jack for these cars, call up uprev and ask them, they'll be honest. It does more on the 1st gens. If you have mods, well, then, a tune is the right thing to do. However with no mods you do get the features of switching maps, that may be worth it to you.

It sounds like you should do some searching around here, but the gist is they are correcting the specs like AF ratio and timing, etc based on your mods.

The bolt ons mostly sacrifice comfort for performance, i.e. noise, ride, etc. If you can't handle more noise, or don't want a harsher ride, then leave it along. Nothing is free

i was able to pick up a Hypertech for $200. im happy with it. HFC and catback with k&n drop ins for me. it allows for the 0-60 throttle restriction removal as well. i was getting hesitation on downshifts before but now its almost disapeared.

A tune will be your best bet but get some bolt on first
