I'd go with the 40 for winter driving for sure...

this may be a stupid question, but what are the advantages to having a higher profile?

You should get the size that has the same diameter as your stock tires' diameter

Smoother ride...more rubber between you and the road...low profiles like 20-30 will ride rougher or harsher than say a 50 or 55. Feel less bumps with higher profile..but you see more tire..which some people hate

245/40/19 would be the ideal size. That would be closest to your overall diameter of OEM set up.

I ran those sizes when I had the M wheels too. No need to drop to 35 series. You will just have more wheel gap. I would just keep it at 40 series especially for your winter set up.

^^ besides the fact that a 245/35 is almost an inch shorter in diameter than stock.

Yep. I am currently on 245/35/19's all around on 19x8.5 (+22et). I think I will go back to my 245/40/19's for my next set.

Yeah, 40 series.

When you say you need new tires for winter, you are talking about all seasons right? Not winter tires. For winter, I would do 225 wide tires.

The main consideration is diameter, you want to be within 3% +/- of the stock diameter, if it's more than 3% it supposedly causes VDC & ABS issues, and also quite a bit of difference in your actual speed compared to the speedo reading.
