Yet another throttle body cleaning problem
Always good to see fellow .org brethern here who moved on to the G yet go back to the org on occasion. I cleaned the TB on my old Maxima quite a bit but never had idle issues. The G is due for a good cleaning sounds like and will be following the advice I've learned here to make sure I do it just right. I do miss the org but don't miss the foolishness that was starting to go on in there. I was only in the 4th Gen and Socal forums but trust me, we had our fair share of foolishness in there as well.
I think after Nissan dropped the ball numerous times, it was just natural for a lot of .Org'ers to jump over to the G side. I still love and miss my 5.5 gen though.

I have no idea how they are selling this junk.
Bumping this up. I also cleaned my tb today and I realized I should have not touch the butterfly to flip it but I did. Turned out I got a code of p1121. Reset ecu and tried resetting the tb but idle never gotten better (not a big issue to me) but vdc and slip would come back on each time I start the engine. Never had any issue with cleaning throttle body in my past experience. Although I disconnected the battery and resetting again tommorrow.
If that's the case, think about it: even if you replaced the throttle bodies (yes, we have two per car), you would still have to do a relearn for the ECU to calibrate them; just throwing parts at it WON'T solve your problem. Either keep trying the relearn until you get it right, or take your car into the dealer for them to do it with their Consult III diag equipment.
If that's not the case, and you were attempting to solve an idle issue by just replacing the TBs, then the above still applies.
Hello everyone,
I know this is an old thread, but for future DIY'ers who come across this erroneous advice, I wanted to share my experience. My car is an '05 FX35 but as we all know the engine and all related electronics are the same. In fear of having the same issues everyone reports of wacky idles post cleaning, I tried the below method of key on and brick on the gas pedal.
The throttle butterfly did not open as expected when attempting this, in fact it didn't open at all. So to save you the time and disappointment, don't bother. I am however happy to report that thanks to the remainder of this thread, I was able to successfully clean my TB with it attached to the car by disconnecting the neg battery terminal, pumping the brake to discharge any residual current, and then disconnecting the wiring harness to the TB. I went to town on it with carb cleaner, a micro fiber cloth, children's toothbrush, and GENTLY manipulating the butterfly with one hand while scrubbing with the other hand. Always keep pressure on the plate to allow it to close and open SLOWLY and GENTLY and you will have no problems!
Post cleaning has been fantastic. I cured my warm restart stall problem (which was why I went in, in the first place, and have a pretty decent increase in throttle response. Best of all, no pedal dance required (thank the lord).

For ANYONE that ever wants to clean their throttle body, remember this for future reference:
IF you want to open the butterfly valve, simply get a second set of hands (friend, cousin, sister, homeless guy, whatever), have them sit in the car, and with the car's ignition turned over to the Accessories setting, have them put the car in gear (1st, D, whatever) and step on the gas. Voila. The valve will flip open, and you'll be able to clean all over the inside of the TB without ever having to touch it.
For what it's worth, I've cleaned the throttle body in both my old Maxima and my G this way. Never had one issue with high idle, and never had to do the re-learn procedure. The car's ECU will eventually re-work all of the fuel maps during the next few drive cycles.

You know come to think of it, that may have been my error. I do not recall having placed the transmission in gear. I went back and forth a few times to make sure the key was in acc position and the brick was holding the pedal down right, but did not check the car was in gear. Curious that it has to be in gear for this to work though, in park with engine on if you floor the gas, the car will rev...
i just cleaned my TB's on my 07 g35s 6mt. 93000 miles,
didn't unplug any thing, just unbolted them, moved the flapper a bit.
now its all screwed up.
1500-2100 up and down. like a slow rev then drop off.
tried the relearn my self, nope
took it to a friends shop with a snapon scantool, tried the relearn that way,, nope.
i read on here that the relearn will not work if the idle is too high to begin with, (over 1000) and the way to get it down is to unplug 1 or 2 injectors to get it down, tried that, will go down a little but only to 1100.
snapon tool told me to unplug the TB's, did that and the car idles smoothly at 1100. still can get it to relearn. snapontool says the relearn times out.
took it to the dealer. they recommend TB replacement at 800 each + labor, i almost fell over.
took out my extended warranty plan, TB's are covered under the power-train warranty that i have.
they ordered 2 new TB's. currently waiting for them to come in, parts and labor are covered.
we will see.
i also read on on here that if the revs are too high that you have to reflash the ecu to get it back into the range of the relearn. told the dealer that, they won't reflash the ECU.
i have a funny feeling that they will have to do that when they get the new TBs on there.
