Question for those who painted their headlights

Did y'all put them back together after the paint dried to touch, or paint cured?

I'm thinking of using high heat paint. It can be handled within a few hours, but it doesn't cure for 5-7 days and i don't want it emitting too much gas with the headlights already sealed.

Worst-case, i could use regular paint (not high heat), but i'm just not sure how that'll work as hot as it gets round here sometimes.

Thanks, folks.

Wow...5-7 days? I let mine dry 24 hours and thought that was good enough. Not sure what the directions on my flat black said but I thought it was enough.

always let them dry completely to avoid moisture accumulation on the lens.

Just for the high heat stuff. Which paint did you use? Did you have any problems of extra gassing causing the lens to haze?

I figured as much -- so does that mean dry to touch after several hours is okay, or do i wait for the full curing time of several days?

Thanks, guys.

I used Dupli flat black on top of primer. No haze to lens at all. I even used additional butyl rubber sealant and let that dry for a few additional hours. I think it has been a year now and the paint looks like it did when I first paint it. I feel like the headlights are one of the most satisfying mods I have done to the car.

Thank you. I just measured the temps on the headlights after 20 minutes of driving with all lamps on (including fogs) and i highly doubt temps will rise beyond any regular spray paint thermal limits, i think i'll follow your route.

I used high heat black gloss and let it dry to the touch for a few hours... as for moisture that is not a concern because we have open headlight housing's anyway so if you see moisture it will always disappear within a few hours

I actually just waited 20 or 30 minutes for it to dry and just resealed everything. Just dont reseal it with silicone..

It's settled then, just ample drying time.

What did y'all use to reseal? I've opened up headlights from my old Maxima, not to paint, but when i resealed i just used whatever was still on there. Never had condensation issues with it.

On the G, i might run some butyl all around the perimeter after it's back together.

Thanks again!
