G35S vs G35XS
Hey guys I'm in the process of looking for a nice used G35. I've always driven sports cars, but my 3 kids won't stop growing, so I need to get a sedan. I've looked at everything under the sun and it seems that the 35 is the best bang for the buck. I'm looking at S models and have found that there are a lot of XS's out there - which surprised me. I actually see more XS's than S's.
We've had a Quattro A4 and I liked the all wheel drive grip, it was a lot of fun.
As far as driving dynamics go, which do you guys feel will be the sportier drive, an S or an XS? How much more does the AWD system weigh? And is there a noticeable difference.
For what it's worth, I live in San Antonio, so there's absolutely no need for AWD. (Just a good A/C!)
Also, is there any problem with dropping either down a little bit using H&R Sport Springs?
Thanks.

IMHO, if you don't need AWD, then don't get the X. The Sport option is not the same between the two; on the X, it's more of an appearance thing. No need to shlep around all that extra hardware, upkeep, and strict tire diameter compliance for no reason. Additionally, it would seems somewhat intuitive that you'd be more prone to experience NVH issues with an X. Besides, it if you're just looking for a model with Sport, there are still plenty of them with RWD out there. It's not like trying to find a 6MT model.

btw, here's a link to the specs if you want to compare included features with the Sport option, weight differences, etc.

Yep, get the RWD S, and you won't be dropping it a little bit w/ H&Rs, it's a pretty aggressive drop and you'll definitely need F&R camber kits and rear toe bolt kit (which req's elongating the toe bolt slider hole) the kits run about $500. Gotta love the look of the aggressive drops though. I'm on B&G S2 springs and it drops about the same as the H&Rs in the front (on the heavier 09+ Gs) and a little less in back. Here's a good thread about the available drops for your future G

i just bought an 08 G35xS. I love my car but I would have to agree with every one else and if you could find one get a RWD S. The only reason I bought an X was I had to replace my A6 that could not pass emissions, so I could not renew my plates. (damh IL gov) so I did not have time to wait to find a 6MT that I really wanted. In upstate NY you might find the same problem I had and 90% of the G's are all X models.
In the month that I looked I was only able to find 2 non-x models and one sold the other one was in an accident.

But remember, that any G35x will smoke you from a stand still and will have the same 1/4 time And if u spend 1000$ on BC coilovers and 400$ on Hotchkis sways it will smoke any G35S on a track (though I read an article, where G35x was faster than G35S on both dry and wet track).

seemed familiar to me too, so i found this in our own forums...
Oh brother... here we go again.
Please use the search feature before you churn these waters.
Several track tests have shown the X to outperform the S in almost all categories.
Can't we agree to disagree?
Road and Track Magazine tested the G35S vs the G35X. (07+)
Rear Drive vs. All-Wheel Drive: That Is the Question
For fun, we brought a rear-drive Infiniti G35 to our autocross and compared it with its all-wheel-drive G35x brother, in both wet and dry conditions with VDC yaw control switched off. We assumed the rear-driver would be quicker in the dry, given its ability to hang out its tail and help the driver tighten his line. But in the wet, we were confident the all-wheel-driver would have a tremendous advantage, hooking up better out of turns. Here's what we learned:
Well, we were wrong on one front, right on the other. Based on group average times on the dry autocross, the awd G35x proved itself faster, surprising us with its rear-biased manners and lapping nearly a second (0.9 sec.) quicker than the rear-drive G35. In the wet the G35x fared even better, 1.3 sec. quicker than the rear-drive G35.
Credit goes to the electronically controlled awd system, which maintains a rear-drive bias while endowing the car with improved stability. Don't get us wrong, the G35x still liked to hang its tail out, but the driver didn't need to be quite so careful with the throttle to keep the car's back end in check. In the rear-drive G35, the driver had to be far less aggressive with the throttle (and quicker with corrections) to post respectable times. Wet or dry, the awd G35x was far easier to drive quickly.

Are you really having more trouble finding a G35s than a G35Xs? I thought the XS is far more rare.
IMO, if you're looking at Auto transmissions then you may want to take a close look at the difference between an S and non-S to determine if you really want to limit yourself to the S.
You do get quite a bit more with the S trim, however if you're going to mod it (new rims, replace suspension, BBK) then a lot of the things you get with the S are pointless anyways.

It took me almost 4 months of constant daily online searching to find the 2008 ivory white G35XS I own right now. I thought about G35 or 37 S model but since I live in upstate NY, I gotta be more practical about it. (there is no way I would park the car in the driveway for 6 months during winter). Luckily enough, I found one in the city with a decent price, good service records and low mileage, 38K. To be honest, the power, the design, everything about this G just amazes me so much that it puts a big smile on my face whenever I roll out my vehicle
