08 G35X SEDAN Aftermaket upgrades/hp gains??

Hello everyone,

I am a new member to the site, as well as new to performance upgrades and parts for that matter for cars, I have never been interested into aftermarket parts until now. I got my 08 last Oct. and within the last few months have been reading/researching parts to upgrade my 08G35x.. The CAI, plenum spacer, power programer, Z hose etc i have been reading about, i have heard yes and no's to these working for specific years and some saying its a waste of money... Now with that I was thinking about trying to add 25-30 hp.. is this possible? (I believe it is) and if so how much is it going to cost..? I was thinking right now my limit is $1000 dollars ( i know this is not a lot of money for aftermarket mods) but for right now its what I can spend for the car.. is 25hp possible for 1000? What can i buy for that money to get me sa close to that increase as possible? a list of parts to get me closest to this would be great guys. I appreciate it

Jordan

I believe 25-30HP is possible, but you would need to do A LOT of upgrades along with an uprev tune. A short list of mods would be headers, full exhaust with HFC's and test pipes, cold air intake, and maybe more if you do a higher octane tune. I couldn't put a price on all of that but I am no expert either. Just giving my two cents =) But it'd cost a pretty penny to do, and after all of that, you could have probably afforded to slap on a turbo for even more gains. Also with the X model, your choice of exhaust systems will be a bit limited.

I say test pipes and a exhaust will give you those numbers. If you can get all your bolt ons and then get the car tune. I heard from someone after having these aftermarket parts on your car will adjest and try to work itself back to normal.

OK so for $1000 what could I buy and how much hp could i gain from just those purchases?

The tune alone would run you $500+ depending on where you get it. Which leaves $500 for either a nice set of High flow cats, or ART pipes. And in my opinion, it is good to have better air flow for your intakes when you mod the exhaust so you can also use K&N drop in filters which you should be able to fit in the budget. But all of this will probably only net you 15HP and maybe 25TQ. The V36 sedan engines don't respond as well to tuning compared to the older coupes because they are already pretty well efficient in the way they make the power. So I doubt 30hp will be gained after a tune without some more serious modifications. And without a tune, you can sure as hell bet that you won't be getting more than 10hp/tq gains unless the ECU does a fantastic job at adjusting itself.

Without an Uprev and a tune, you're not going to gain much of anything for your money. Although, when you figure the Uprev and tune into your budget, there's not a whole lot left for any of the mods that a tune could capitalize upon either.

As far as netting 25-30 hp, even if it were do-able (seems a tad optimistic), it's literally going to cost you thousands of dollars, which IMHO is a very poor ROI.

So i found this in a plenum spacer thread...

MREV2 + spacer + Osiris= $900-1,000.....30+hp (and a much better power curve)

whats an mrev2 and is this possible for an 08 g35x

I don't think your months of research are paying off.
The mrev is not for HR motors.
Time to hit the research wagon again.

^^^ lol

Plenum spacers can only be used for the 03-06 sedan and 03-07 coupe engines and even then it depends on whether it is a rev-up or non rev-up engine. So no they cannot be used for the 07-08 sedans. A z-tube is also limited to the older generations. And like I said, the older generation coupes and sedans were able to gain far more with a tune because there was a lot more room for improvement. Nissan capitalized in this with their v36 engine by making adjustments that negate the use of a plenum spacer and/or the z-tube since we now have dual intakes instead of the single intake like the v35 cars.

I have an 08 g35X sedan too and I would recommend what I have on mine as I am pretty happy with the results so far.

1.stillen gen 3 intake -$450+
2.ARK grip cat back exhuast - I paid 1000 shipped but they typically are 1200+
3. Fast Intentions resontated HFC(no drone and respectably mature exhuast note)- on order -600 shipped
4. Once I have the high flow cats installed I will tie it all together with an OSIRIS tune. - most likely will cost me 700 at the shop that does it locally

I would think those together should be good for close to 25 to maybe 30hp.

Since you only have 1k to throw in this money pit of stuff you don't need called modding- I recommend scoping out the 2nd gen classified section for a used gen3 intake and getting in on one of the group buys for a set of the fast intentions resonated high flow cats.

There you have it

i have an 07x same as yours

here is what you will need to gain that hp

kn drop in filter (or filter of choice) no other mod to intake needed 150 or so depending on what you get for a deal
http://www.amazon.com/07-09-350z-370z-Drop-Filter/dp/B0067NMP2K http://www.amazon.com/07-09-350z-370z-Drop-Filter/dp/B0067NMP2K

muffler delete with weld on pipes 150 or so depending on what tip you get with it

a tune 500
https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...ting-tune.html

and you have 200 left over

i gained 20ish whp with just kn drop ins and a tune... the muffler delete is just gonna gain an extra 1 or 2hp maybe but it sounds great

so your saying to get drop ins? not a cold air intake system? and what about HFC's? do you need a cat back exhaust for the Hfc's??
