My experiment with Plasti Dip and trim

Hey everyone,

Just thought i would share my results with plasti dip and the chrome trim on the G.

I was just testing this and didn't really put on a heavy layer. Turned out fantastic and looks just like rubber trim. The only pain is removing the tape as the plasti dip stays with he tap and trim as one piece. You need a really sharp blade to separate the 2.

Thoughts?

P.S. I will not be keeping the grill this way.

Looks like you did a good job. Using vinyl wrap for the trim is pretty simple and matches the door pillars perfectly, no need to tape everything off so probably similar in time spent.
I previously P-dipped my rear chrome lip and grill but have since replaced the chrome lip w/ oem deck spoiler, and carbon wrapped my grill. I didn't mind the P-dip look, but I hated trying to clean the stuff, it grips microfiber towels like velcro, prone to peeling, and hard to get the water spots off, at least that's my experience.
Nice look you've got going though, I like it!

I am of the same opinion. Kind of a reverse midnight grille. It looks odd.

Thanks for the input. I was wondering how long it would stand up to washing and waxing. I think if it doesn't hold up I will definitely be vinyl rapping it next time.

As for masking the car I think it took me 4 hrs and it's a pain getting around all the rubber trim bits. I think it's still better than taking them off as the tabs holding them look pretty weak.

This is the first "mod" I have done to the G and wasn't sure what it would end up like. Do they make a midnight grille for the 07 V36?

^ yes they do make midnight grill for 07 V36, ask rick from infiniti on these forums who offers good prices for oem parts. Those grills look nice with their metallic black finish and hold up much better against pitting

How would the pillars look matte black? Instead of having matte black trim with gloss black pillars?

A easier way is to tape just outside of whatever you want to do, if the gap is big enough and you put enough coats on the outside will peel off with ease and will save you a lot of time.

...and the plasti dip craze continues. I don't get it. Hate to be the negative person in the thread but I don't like throwing plasti dip all over our cars. If you were continuing your mod scheme such as blacking things out and you wanted to differentiate the gloss black pillars w/ a matte black finish I could potentially see that but I'm not sure where you're going with your theme yet. I just think the "dip" looks like an unrefined rough finish and doesn't go with well with the vehicle. I know you spent a lot of time doing this but I would recommend a vinyl wrap for all areas that you modded to get a more permanent, classy, and easy to maintain finish. But hey, to each his own, wish you luck on your future mods.
