Any safe way to remove the small pits & scratches on headlight covers?
Just painted my headlights and would love to have perfect or at least close to perfect covers again. Anyone know if there's a product or procedure that will at least improve the dings and light scratches on the covers.
I personally don't think there is such procedure... I've tried practically all the headlight products that are "scratch removers'' but none that have actually worked. Have you checked on youtube yet?

Haven't checked youtube, I'll give it a shot. What products have you tried?
Toothpaste? its like rubbing pumice on your headlights.
Be prepared to follow up with a polish.
On my other car, I had to use sandpaper, 100 grit, 500 grit 1000grit....then plastic polish, but I think Wenol or Mag polish did a better job than the plastic polish.
They're all about the same except the rainX brand you will need to use water to rub off.
I've even tried the different level grits (sanding it down) and I personally would take it to a pro at that point because I almost scratched it up permanently

Thanks for the comments & suggestions, it looks like this may be the best plan of attack from a thread I have over on myg37
Sure. There are a number of products out there for refinishing headlight cover/lenses that start with a sanding step if your damage is fairly severe. But I've had good results on moderate renovations with a Porter Cable random orbit (7424XP) and Meguiars M105 followed by M205.
Keep in mind that any polishing, to the level that would remove deeper scratches and pits, will also remove all of the UV protection from the front of the lens. Therefore, you will inherit the ongoing task of maintaining your lenses from yellowing prematurely.
