Water leak near glove compartment
Water leak near glove compartment
Well, a few weeks ago, on my 4+ year old 2007 G35 Sedan, I noticed a wet patch on the ffar right front part of the floormat/carpet area on the front passenger seat. I thought it was a water bottle that was not sealed properly. But then, it happened again yesterday. It rained that morning. When I removed the floor mat which was wet in that same area as last time, I noticed the carpeted area underneath was wetter in that same spot bordering the front side of the door. I opened the passenger door to see if water was sneaking in because I noticed a drop of water near the speaker. BUt I couldn't tell for sure. THen I put my hand underneath the glove compartment because I saw a couple of isolated droplets in the vicinity on the carpeted area. As my hand reached underneath moving right along the bottom of the glove compartment and I started to touch the right side as I finished traversing the bottom part, I felt a few more drops. It's gotta be from that area.
Any TSB? Ridiculous such a leak happens for a 4 year old car. What do you think is going on? Is this rain related? I can't remember if the first occurrence happened after rain.

Have you had your windshield replaced? Apparently, the bottom seal on the windshield is critical for these cars in particular and if it's not perfect, then you can get leaks like you've got. Short of that, another possibility is that the condensate from the climate control system is leaking. You know how there is often a wet patch of liquid under your car after you parked for a while and it turns our to just be water; well, that is the same water that this could be if it isn't properly draining from the system. Lastly, some folks have had issues with debris clogging the drain in the battery box, usually when the lid is left off, thereby causing it to flood, but I don't know if that could actually enter the cabin or not.
bought your car brand new? I punctured a hole in a rubber seal that houses some cables behind the battery compartment. The cable goes through the firewall and down the passenger footwell. I did this to route a 0 gauge wire to power my sub. I removed everything when i noticed water was seeping in the same area you are describing. Put some electrical tape around the seal and everything was fixed after that.
^ VQ and muyrec have stated all 3 possible issues, if you haven not had your windshield replaced, not punctured a hole in the rubber jacket near the battery firewall to feed a wire into the car, and the battery compartment drain is not clogged then its most probably a clogged drain for the a/c.
one member had that issue and ended up clearing the clog by sticking some sort of a wire(wire hanger would work) through the drain hole from underneath the car to clear the clog. When you get underneath the car from the front passenger side, you will see a circular hole cutout where the drain pipe is.

Yeah, that wiper cowl above the battery isn't secured right. There is a small piece of weather stripping attached to it that connects to your windshield. The previous owner probably had it off fooling with the battery at some point. If its not on their securely, it will leak right through the cabin filter and into your floor.

There is not one solution; it is varied. Have you looked into the possibilites that have been discussed here already as they might apply to YOUR car?
