M mode shifting problem

Every time I shift from 2nd to 3rd gear on M mode there's a little jerk (it happens regardless of pedal input, it happens when I floor the car and it happens when I'm shifting at low rpms), its like when you are launching the car but of course way less violent, there's a little sound that comes with it like a clunk sound (it is not very loud). Shifting in M mode for any other gears are flawless and also when I put the car in D or DS there's also no problems with it. And I checked the transmission fluid 2000km ago, I'll check again soon but the last time I checked it was at the perfect level and it was pink. And I never ever launched the car in my ownership. Anyone know what this could be or could mean? Thanks

A hard 2-3 shift is considered normal operation. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I was concerned about this "hard shift" as well, so I took my car to the dealership while it was still under warranty. As stated above, Infiniti considers this "normal". I disagree. I could see if you had the accelerator to the floor and was driving the crap out of the car, but for easy, Sunday driving...and shifting hard like that....just doesn't seem right.

Part of me wants every shift to be this firm on my G like my rwd weekend toy also with an auto tranny that can bark second gear on demand easier than any stick shift I've ever driven.

Yeah but it's not like a positive shift that you get from installing a shift kit, it's just a thud. Kinda like when you have a bad universal joint.

You have the same problem too? My infiniti dealer said they would diagnose the problem for 139 bucks and that doesn't include fixing. They said it's something to do with ECU timing for shift points or something

Hmmm. Like I mentioned before, my dealership looked at my car while it was under warranty and said it was normal. Typically a dealership will jump at warranty work, which leads me to believe they were not just blowing smoke up my @ss. You may want to save your money.

6MT would have been nice, but needed the X for winter snow.

I'm in the same boat as you. Experience these hard shift as well from 2nd to 3rd when in M mode, see it less when shifting very quick under 3000rpm, but 4500+ and it's a hard shift.

its 100% normal, it has to do with the clearances in the transmission. Only way to fix it is to rebuild.

I do not know how it impacts reliability, I personally kept in in Manual mode the whole time I drove it and would get the clunk/hard shift a lot, though it seemed not to happen much after 4k rpm for me.

It's fine. I used to get the hard shifts between 2-3 gear as well. I'm pretty sure your DS/M mode will break waaaay before your tranny breaks.
