I love the interior of my car (black leather which is great quality, and brushed aluminum trim). However, the plastic around the steering wheel, window controls, etc seems of be of very poor quality.... the coating rubs off and makes it look pretty rough. Has anyone had any success with finding replacement panels, trim kits, etc to cover this? I know it's small but it drives me NUTS-- I'm a fanatic about the interior and cleaning it, but there seems to be no stopping this stuff from rubbing off.

I'm also getting some slight discoloration on the grained vinyl/plastic on the doors that I think is due to sweat, sunscreen etc, but no cleaner seems to get it off.

 

you can buy those panels individually. the dealer replaced my steering wheel and drivers side door jam under warranty.

 

its been discussed many times on these forums. Inifniti made harder plastic trim pieces form 08, so if you get the trim pieces for 08+ then they will not be the soft ones from 07 and wont chip or peel. i believe they are around $20-30 a piece for the door trims and steering wheel trim is about the same but requires you to remove the steering wheel(follow the DIY in the appropriate section). I plastidipped the front two door trims which were teh only two peeling and they have been fine since and seem oem

 

Man, I wish mine was still under warranty! Glad to know it's an easy fix.

Nah, it's pretty universally shared as a major annoyance that undermines the integrity of whatever luxury credo these cars have; good thing it is easy to fix.

 

I have an 08 and my trim pieces are peeling.

 

dealer replaced mine under warranty.

but if you are out of warranty, then getting those parts are "not too expensive"

 

it was probably a mid-year change to the production. Even the owners manuals are divided for the '08 model year depending on actual production date.

 

^ what he said, it was a mid year change indeed, but either way when you get new pieces they should be the newer harder plastic ones. They stopped making the soft ones but still make sure you're getting the hard ones when buying

 

I wonder how well plastidip would hold up on these pieces? I personally don't like the cheap feel of the replacement plastic trim. I think several coats of plastidip would yield a nice soft, matte finish that closely resembles that of the original coating.

 

i have plastidip on mine for about a year now and its been holding up great on the one that i sanded done completely. the one on the driver side i sprayed on top of the existing coating and it has started to come of slightly along the door pull area while the rest is fine. and like i said the look is near oem with a tad bit of shine
