Taillight LEDs not working

Some of the LEDs in the passenger side stopped working out of nowhere. What was the issue that caused only few LEDs to go bad but the rest of the tail light works just fine. And how do I fix it up? Can I buy separate LED replacement bulbs or do I replace the entire tail light unit?

No you cannot buy the LED's separately. The whole assembly needs replaced.

I had the dealer I purchased my 07 from replace mine when I first got it because some of the LED's were out. I told them it was a safety hazard and wouldn't purchase the car otherwise. The quickly agreed lol

On my driver's side, one ring of LED's lights, the other doesn't. The dealer said the lamp assembly, 2655-JK60D, needs to be replaced, and it costs $225 with tax. I'm out of warranty by a couple years, so I hope a search here comes up with a repair.

Why not just pick up something like this:

Used is an option, but what about aftermarket

Thanks for finding that, if not for the chipped corner I would have jumped on it. I wonder if anyone has experience with Eagle Eyes, amautoparts, or Value grade aftermarket parts?

If at all possible, I would recommend sticking with a genuine factory original part, NOT aftermarket; even if it means getting a used part. THat one I found was just from a quick glance at ebay ads, there were many more listings I never even looked at, so you may yet find something suitable there.

^whs, having had experienced AM lights on other cars, most of them are made out of cheap plastic and begin to discolor fast and become dull

How hard is it replace tail light assembly? This just happened to me. The charge is $328, parts and labor, at dealer.

^^ I've never actually removed from our cars, but I have on many others, and it is typically quite easy; just a matter of loosening/removing some of the trunk lining material to gain access to the mounting hardware, unplugging the electrical hookup, and out she pops. I would definitely never recommend someone pay for that service.

This^^, just pry up 3 or 4 of the trunk lining pop plastic clips, might have to remove the trunk net clip (don't remember), and then like 3 or 4 nuts to remove holding the taillights secure. Takes about 5 minutes tops.
