Just wonder if its just me, or the newer G25/G37 has brighter highlight?

When I had the loaner from Infiniti, it feels like either the highlight is brighter or better coverage.

hids lose their brightness as years go buy. They most likely look brighter because they are newer. I've heard some people buy new bulbs after 3 or 4 years. Not sure if it actually makes a difference.

I heard the 2010+ G37 updated the ballast, not sure if it has more output or just a different design though

There are several factors for this:

1. HID bulbs get dimmer as time goes on, and also color shift to a higher temperature, which loses lumens. As bulbs age, they become bluer and lose light output. That's why on old cars, you can see bulbs turning pink, when the bulb is almost just about dead. The loaner's HID bulb is probably whiter than your old car (which is probably bluer.)

2. Your lens or projector bowl or even headlight plastic cover could be dirty or hazy, which does make a significant light output difference as well as not as sharp cutoffs. Have you noticed that the plastic cover over headlights become duller after a while? Both the newer models and our cars have the same fresnel lens, so they should spread the light exactly the same. The ballasts all output 35 watts for our cars, old and new, so a newer ballast would function exactly the same as an older ballast in terms of light output on an HID bulb. The newer generation of ballasts are just smaller than the older generation and probably more water resistant.

The most sought out after HID bulbs are the Osram 66240CBI, (I just installed them two weeks ago, and my headlights were much brighter than what I had before.) They have the 5000K color temp while outputting the same amount of lumens as 4300K OEM bulbs. The brightest D2S bulb with the most lumens is the 66240SVS bulb. These bulbs don't come cheap, and cost around $200 for a pair. Mercedes Benz and Audi now started using these bulbs as OEM on their vehicles.

Of course, your other option could be to upgrade your ballasts to 50 watts, which would require taking apart the headlight and buying a 50W ballast....

The projector lens has changed, the original lenses had rings like a fresnel lens that softened the edges and spread the light out. The new ones don't have the rings so more light is concentrated forward and have a hard edge defining the beam pattern.

The new ones also have the rings. I drove a loaner from them for the past two weeks. The rings aren't as well defined, but they're definitely there.

If you look at the all the other Infiniti new cars, they also have rings too.
