Whistle noise in cold weather
Whistle noise in cold weather
I have a 2008 G35x Automatic. It's been very cold recently and when i first start the car it makes a high pitch whistle noise for about 15min or so..then it's gone.
It's not very loud..I can't hear it from inside the car...only when parked and started and im standing next to it.
Did any of you ever experience this?
Thanks for the help

No idea...could it be your belt? They usually make chirping/whistling noises when they're going bad.
Plus it is indeed cold out so it could make your serpentine belt act weird, since cold does harden rubber. I would start by checking your belt for any cracks or tears. It is easy to spot.

I don't think alternators are supposed to make noises like that...Are you sure it isn't the belt chirping as it's turning the pulleys of the alternator? Your bearings might be going bad in that case.

It's because the rubber gets hard when it's cold. Also probably bc the rubber has dried out over time
Check if your belt needs replacement.
Changing the belt is extremely simple. Only need a breaker bar (with smaller joint, cheaper bars have bigger joints that won't fit in the space in our cars) or a serpentine belt tool from harbor freight tools. It should take like 30 minutes max.
