Erratic RMPs after cleanning MAF Sensors
Erratic RMPs after cleanning MAF Sensors
So today I decided to clean my MAF sensors since my car was stalling at random while driving slow or coming to a stop. I disconnected the battery and removed the sensors and cleaned them. I left them to dry for about half an hour before putting them back and reconnecting the battery. I went for a 1/2 hour drive with no issues. Then I wen to get my son from work, jumped on the freeway and turned on the AC. When I got off the freeway I stopped at the light. When the light turned green my RPMs went from from 2000 to almost 0 and them to 2000 again. It's been doing that every time I go from being stopped. What now? Any help is appreciated. By the way my throttle bodies were cleaned by the dealer less than a month ago.
Those MAF's are touchy little critters and the throttle bodies are even more temperamental after being messed with. But I don't have anything useful to say other than you might want to fix your subject line.
I heard from my local mechanic that MAF sensors are very fragile and can easily be damaged while cleaning, so he recommends not touching those sensors. He says he has have some fail before when they were cleaned.
He did clean my throttle bodies with no problems at all. You may end up needing to buy new MAF sensors.

i have used the CRC MAF cleaner spray to clean mine without any issue, i just liberally spray the maf inside out and let it air out for ~5mins install and start car after 10 mins.
