ALL your answers are contained within this thread if you read through it thoroughly, but briefly:

1) there is no particular mileage that this occurs.
2) yes, you can probably still drive it, although you'd want to minimize it to be sure.
3) yes to removing just the front cover, but no, probably still need to remove timing chain.

VQsmile singled out a few posts w/ important info in that thread, check post #70 & 90, and then this post that contains an Adobe link that details all the work involved in "just" removing the front cover to R&R those gaskets, even that job will be a total PITA

^^ That was the 2014. The 2016's come with them on all corners:

Other 2016 Chevrolet SS chassis features include:
•Standard Brembo brakes with four-piston calipers and ventilated, 14-inch(355mm) front rotors and 14.2-inch (360 mm) rear rotors

not my pic:

I have a problem with my 2010 Infiniti G37 xs Sedan Uprev tuned. I'm getting a p0021 code and the engine cuts out at about 3500 rpm, no low oil pressure light or code.Do these engines have the bad timing cover gasket problem? Hopefully not. Is the issue most likely an INTAKE VALVE TIMING CONTROL SOLENOID VALVE, forgive the caps, or a bad cam position sensor? Also what ever happened to Infiniti dude who started this thread?

Had the P0021, pulled the left cam gear cover, the cam solenoid was bad, replaced it and the cam position sensor, started it up with oil pressure tester on,37 degrees f out let her warm for about a half hour or more, settled at no lower that 20 psi @idle and 50 psi @ 2000 will within spec no cels.I will remove pressure gauge tomorrow and test drive it will be hammered on!So far it's not a bad timing cover gasket.

So all you did was remove the small access plate/cover and how did you discover the bad solenoid and was the replacing the solenoid replacement easy? Thanks

The P0021 without any oil pressure code made me decide to test the solenoid. When I disconnected the connector I tapped on it lightly to loosen the seal and the **** cracked. So I had to pull the cover to get the broken solenoid insert out.when I looked in the solenoid housing area there was a small piece of it deep in the recess. So I ordered a new solenoid, replaced it and the 3 cam seals around the shaft inside the housing. She started right up smoothly,The oil pressure was steady and strong no codes. I'm praying the code doesn't come up again. I'm switching to the Nissan ester,fuçk it! The Parts guy at Infiniti said hes not aware of any timing cover gasket issues with the 2010.Be careful removing the cover.Theres 8 -10 mm head bolts to remove, theyre all easy.Unbolt the coolant reservoir first. I used a straight screw driver and a small rubber hammer to wedge it off in the gap side to side, you can't pull it with fingers. As always, I will report back.
