Question P0021 - Camshaft POS - Location

Hello all,

I have recently gotten the P0021 code pop up. I picked up a new Camshaft Position Sensor from the local Infiniti dealer today. I am wanting to try and get it put in this weekend so that I can check to see if the code will go away or maybe if it is something else. I have searched through hundreds of threads but haven't gotten a good idea on where the sensor is located on the VQ35HR motors. I know that it is suppose to have a green connector but I cant find it.

If anyone can help me out it would be really helpful! Thanks again G35ers.

^^ WHS

OP, I'd definitely look into getting the oil pressure read before I put any money into swapping sensors.

I can tell you it's on the driver side.

I will look into checking the oil pressure. Is it normal to get the code to pop up but not have any other lights come on with the SES even it the pressure is low? Or do you guys think that the light would be on when the 0021 code is shown? Does anyone know if there is a DIY thread on here that will give me a description where I can try and check the Oil Pressure myself?

Hey bro, right next to the oil filter you will see the oil pressure switch. You can hook in there to check oil pressure once you take the switch out. The oil pressure light doesn't normally come on for this code. But look at my link that I posted on the dreaded p0011/p0021 codes and you will see what I mean.

Thansks Infinitidude,

I will look to pickup a pressure kit from harbor freight or autozone and hook it up once the weather gets a little better here in Dallas, Sitting at a cooling 15 degrees right now and don't want to crawl up under that car! I will post the PSI once I get the reading. One thing is do I hook up the gauge and then turn the car on and let it run for a bit to get the reading? or is there a specific way to get it done?

Yes just hook the gauge up and then crank and let idle. It should have more than 14 psi at idle and more than 43 psi at 2000 rpm's. Anything below that plan on having those rear timing cover gaskets replaced.

Thanks bro,

I am going to work on getting this done this week and post the results of the test. Hopefully its just the sensor and wont require having the gaskets changed. But we will see. Thank you and will post soon!

infinitidude,

Sorry for the late post. Been out of town for a while on family and business. I got back in town over the weekend and went and had one of my friends check the oil pressure and it was all within the specs that you had quoted.

I also have a sensor that I picked up the Grubbs Infiniti and wanted to try and install it and see if that will take care of the code that is popping up. My question is where would I locate the bank 2 camshaft sensor. I have seen on some sites that it is at the front of the engine but I don't want to take anything off until I am sure that I have the correct sensor. The one that I am seeing has a blue housing but no green clip like some other forums have stated. Would you be able to direct me in the right direction to where I would locate the sensor?

Thanks for all your help

It's on the front of the engine on the driver side. You may have to take the air filter box out. I can't remember right off hand if it gets in the way.

I went ahead and tried to remove the sensor which I believe it is as in the picture that I posted earlier. It doesn't look like a sensor because there are 2 wires that go into the area. You think I am looking at the wrong part?
