Bicycle in the backseat
Bicycle in the backseat
Any particular best way to do this?
Usually use my truck which has a rack, but going a few hours for some crits.
Don't see the investment in a good rack being worthwhile. I do have a trunk rack, but I hate them.

I have moved my mtn bike in the G. Had to take the front and rear wheels off and the seat. Laid towels and blankets down and made sure nothing sharp was jabbing.
Other than the couple times I had to do this I always used my wife's hatchback. Now I have a wagon as a second car for these needs.

buy SeaSuckers. They are better then any conventional rack. I've had mine now for 2 years, no issues. Plus they are universal. http://www.seasucker.com/
you can fit two bikes in the G!
I've done this before successfully. You can fit a bike in the trunk of a 2008 G sedan (obviously with nothing else in the trunk). You need to take off both wheels and the seat. You should be able to then Tetris the bike chain side up and first into the trunk. Then place the rest of the wheels in the trunk. I advise to use blankets or newspapers to place between the wheels and the frame if you don't want scratches in the bike/wheels.
For the back seat, as everyone else suggests, use blankets to prevent grease from getting on everything, then remove both wheels. No need to remove the seat unless you have to. Then place the bike inside where the foot wells are chain side down and with the chain side facing the front of the car. The crank and pedal will rest on the rear seat. Wheels can go on the back seat.
Good luck playing Tetris with your bike and the G!
