Buying dilemma

Hey fellas,

So i've been looking to buy a 07-08 G35 for quite some time. Been looking since December 2014. I've had buddies who've owned and loved them. I've driven them and highly enjoy them myself. For the past few weeks i've been doing a lot of research. I found a few 07's and 08's in my area that are reasonably priced. A few 07's at 74k for $13.5k and a couple 08's around 60k at $14-$16k. Now the one thing that's really bugging me about purchasing a G35 is the dreaded P0011 & P0021 codes. I guess the problem is that it's such a costly fix for a minor problem and that kind of bugs me. The fact that the car i could purchase may have that problem. I also noticed the G37's have these problems as well. My last resort would be a G25. So my question is... Am I overthinking with these codes? I know money isnt an issue but for the cost of the repair the money could sure go to a nice set of wheels... or a vacation! I guess you can also factor in that the car won't be coming with warranty. So all expenses will be paid out of my pocket. Also do you guys believe that the codes could grant me a higher bargaining position with a seller/dealer?

Thank you.

Maybe your thinking too far into it. You can alway ask the dealers for the elite warranty to Secure the peace of mind. I have an 08 sedan and at 70k and to add on it, supercharger. It could be a hit and miss with the code. I have had no problems w/ my car.

I think there is no telling how pervasive this gasket issue will turn out to be in the long run, only time will tell. It could be that with time, a greater number of cars will develop the syndrome, or it could be that it turns out to be just a very finite number within the many, many cars out there.

If you do decide to buy one of these cars, the best thing you can do is measure the oil pressure and make sure it meets minimum factory specs before the purchase! This doesn't guarantee you won't have issues develop later, but at least you wont be buying into a problem right off the bat. Another possibility is to look for a car that has already had the repair performed. Once those demon gaskets have been properly exorcised from the car, it should be good to go from then on.

As far as bargaining the dealer down because of it, you can always try, but I suspect they will downplay it big time; either claiming they've never heard of it or that they've only seen it happen to just a few cars in all they cars they've serviced.
(hint: the service techs will probably tell you more honestly when there's no salesmen around)
