Weird handling

Lately my G35 has been handling differently. I'll try to describe it.

When I bought it last summer, it felt beautifully stable. Ripping around a curve, it felt like it was on rails – steady, solid and predictable.

As of late, it has started to feel unsteady – unpredictable with oversteer that comes on suddenly – as if the rear end is trying to overtake the front. Imagine driving into a normal curve at a reasonable speed. You gradually increase the turn until suddenly the car starts to oversteer and takes on the feeling of an old Cadillac.

I took it to the dealer and got an alignment and a suspension inspection. It's nicely aligned now and they said they couldn't find anything wrong. They said struts, springs, bushings and ball joints all look good. I'm not convinced.

Anyone have any thoughts on what I could be missing?

Sounds like a blown strut.

Sounds like bad shocks. How many miles on em? If they just looked at them and they weren't leaking they wouldn't be able to tell if they're bad. But just cuz they're not leaking doesn't mean they're still good.

I was thinking shocks, too. About 80K miles on them. I asked them specifically about the shocks, too. I paid $135 for them to drive the car around the block and tell me the shocks weren't leaking. Feeling terrific about that right now.

80k is exactly when mine went. Well 79k, but who's counting. Haha

Excessive under steer is a classic bad shocks sign. Also nose diving in a hard brake situation.

Maybe not leaking, but compromised. My shocks were alright but I replaced them at 78K with coilovers because I knew they would be going relatively soon.

OEM shocks lasted 80k miles only? I would expect them to last longer ..

Almost all cars have OEM shocks that start to go out around 75K. Usually it is noticeable but doesn't affect normal operation. If you sit in a car with 150K+ miles you can definitely tell.

I'm at 152K on mine.

I drive pretty aggressive and it still handles "well". I can't remember how it compated to brand new though as it's been 7-8 years but the ride confort is actyally still pretty good. I have the replacements though, just waiting for better weather. Curious to see how it handles after i replace them

Maybe it's time to upgrade your suspension.

I say just upgrade the sway bars, get a strut bar coils. It will stiffen it up real nice.
