For you folks getting MPG below 17-18, what kind of tires do you have ? I have all-season, "luxury touring" tailored tires (my sister, the previous owner, put them on ~4 months before she sold it to me - before winter). We need all-season tires here unless you want the hassle of buying a 2nd set of wheels or re-mounting them as the seasons change....

I wouldn't think it would impact city driving as much as highway driving but some people have claimed a 4-5 mpg decrease on "high performance" (sticky rubber) tires. Here's an article from Consumer Reports (stick to this study, not your opinion of CR) that tested (1) car with (2) different sets of tires. They only saw a 1.9 mpg change between the tire with the least rolling resistance vs the tire with the highest resistance. Makes me skeptical of some people's claims of 4-5 mpg change but they no doubt saw some change.

Michelin pilot sport cup. I get 20mpg on the highway and about 13mpg city.

Can you drive your car in rain or snow with those tires ? They look like high-performance, summer only tread to me ! I would say they contribute to reduced fuel economy too but they no doubt stick like hell to the road !

On wet roads they're DECENT but my previous A/S set was better. Snow... lol... that's why I've only driven my G 3 times in the last few months.

The jobsite I'm currently on has a poorly maintained gravel trail 1.2 miles long leading to the jobsite and I would probably not even be able to make ti to the parking lot so the G is currently retired from daily driver service. My plan was to eventually just make it a weekend machine anyways so this just sped up the timeline.

I still dont get why so many get 13-15 city and others say 19-23???
Its not that much in tires and i drive it easy.
I guess i must change both upstream O2 sensors....... no codes, but i read they deteriorate and s/b changed around 100k and i am at 107k

Note the average speed - this was on an 80-mile trip (one-way). I purposely drove with the cruise control on 70 mph as I recall. This picture was while I was on the off-ramp of the interstate and cruise control was off then.

Just as a test, I've set the cruise control at 55-60 and can get 28-29 mpg. I just can't drive at that speed on the interstate though !
What kind of car repair/maintenance is that ? You "heard" they deteriorate at some magical mileage number ? I mean, it's your time and money but if there's no codes, I'm 99% confident this won't fix anything.

I just realized this was under the HR sedan subforum lol. Forget everything I said about mileage, different motor. I suspect that's where a LOT of the fuel mileage differences are coming from btw.

According to fueleconomy.gov, there's only a (1) MPG difference (combined) between an '08 and an '05. 17/24 vs 16/23 for city/highway for '08 and '05. I know people dispute their numbers - either too high or too low - at least in their case it's an apples-to-apples comparison.

That sounds about right, if I was really trying to milk out every drop of fuel economy I bet I could hit 16mpg in the city but that would utterly suck the fun out of the vehicle.

I'll say this again as I have in other threads: I don't consider gas expenditures on this car to be part of my transportation budget...

...they're in the entertainment budget!
