Thinking of Purchasing a high mileage 6MT sedan(advice)

Hi All,

I am currently a g37X sedan owner and thinking of downsizing my payment and get back into a manual 6 speed. I found a very nice looking g35 sport sedan with over 100,000k. I would consider it if things check out and there aren't concerns listed here.

My 3.7 is bullet proof and only has 60k, but the Transmission sucks beyond belief. I can't get out of the payment yet unless I sell and downsize to another acceptable (Fun)car. My preferences are always with the enthusiast in mind, I just can't afford to sacrifice much at this time.

Given I don't know the history yet, of this 35HR sedan, What should I be leary of? Does anyone have a 2007+ Sedan with high mileage and how is it holding up? Common issues?
and would you purchase one if it was clean with that type of mileage?

Thanks..

I have a 2007 G35x with 248,000kms, around 150k miles, no trouble spots yet. the Headlights are starting to have a clear coat or something peel off, but I'm just going to wet sand and polish away when it warms up again. Only other thing I've noticed is the blower motor for whatever reason gets kinda loud and whiny when its wet out. Otherwise I have no issues and the motor and tranny still run strong. I wish I got the manual instead of 5spd auto though. One of the worst automatics I've ever driven. It's reliable obviously but it's not my cup of tea.
Honestly though these cars are known to go for high mileage without any issues. I average 20mpg with my G35x.

203K here. I fix small things now and then like a caliper or wheel bearing, but I have no payment and I bought it new, so I don't mind. My seats are holding up well and you cannot tell it is a high mileage car looking at it. We drove from Maryland to Florida this summer without a hesitation. You must do clutch mods to make it feel right.

100,000km (61,000 mi) is nothing. Just getting broken in. I wouldn't give it a second thought. I bought my 06 sedanX at 74,000 miles. Had all dealer service records and the independent Nissan/Z shop that I got independent inspection from gave 2 thumbs up. So if it checks out and the price is good for you, I'd jump and not look back.

Infrequent as it may be, I always recommend having the oil pressure checked before buying one of these cars. It's a simple procedure and it is the only indicator to predict the need for a massively expensive job of replacing the rear timing cover gaskets.

Thanks all for the feedback. I am addressing specifically the 07+ sedans and issues that would apply to those with 6mt. Also, I would be lightly modding- Probably an uprev tune just to improve throttle response and maybe gain a better curve.

Thoughts and or experience per above?

Clutch hydraulics are a weak link with these cars too. Master and slave cylinder issue are common.

I second a couple of the issues mentioned above to check: Oil pressure test and check master and slave cylinder (I guess there is no visual check for the slave cylinder other than proper clutch function).

Other things to keep an eye on:
Really drive it through all the gears and make sure the synchros do not grind and shifting does not have any major resistance. If possible, cold start on a cold day would be good to get a feel for the transmission.

Along with all service performed, make sure transmission and rear diff fluid was changed (hopefully at 30k intervals), and changed with nissan specific fluid.
Find out if clutch was replaced and obviously test for slipping. If driven on a really cold day make sure pedal returns.

I personally would want to make sure the AC compressor is not making the annoying grinding noise that some are known to have.

Cosmetic items I would look for are front seat lumbar wear/rips and steering wheel bezel/door pull paint chipping (neither of which are deal breakers to me as they can be repaired).

I would want to find out the age of the shocks/struts and check condition of bushings (specifically control arms and rear diff bushings). I would also want to drive it on the highway and make sure it doesnt wonder, vibrate or feel unsteady over bumps and the wheel bearings sound ok.

If it has tech package make sure intelligent cruise control functions properly and maintains speed smoothly.
