OEM Rotors and Pads

So after getting my car serviced, it has come to my attention that my rear brakes are on their last legs. I am going to need new pads and rotors. The fronts still got a little left in them but figured I would replace them if the rears are getting done.

The Infiniti dealer wanted to charge about $1200 for front rotors/pads and rear rotors/pads. I called a few shops in the area and got quotes ranging from $650-$1000.

I thought about possibly purchasing some OEM pads and rotors and having a shop install them if that is a cost effective option. I'm not against aftermarket either, just don't want to be cheaping out too much.

Anyone got any recommendations for purchasing online? I see there are plenty of options to choose from but wanted some first hand experience.

The car has 68,000 miles but bought from the dealer at 40,000 miles 4 1/2 years ago and haven'd had to do any brake work until now.

Thanks for the assistance.

That pricing is ridiculous, but not altogether uncommon. If a shop is hanging brand new rotors and pads, then there is nothing but a couple hours (or less) of labor cost to add to the parts cost.

Next, there really isn't any reason to stick with factory parts here, as they are known to be pretty darn mediocre. Since you were considering factory parts, I'm assuming you're not looking for any fancy drilled/slotted/cryogenically treated/ etc. rotors, so that keeps the cost and quality well in check for the replacements.

You can't go wrong by simply getting a set of Centric Premium (blank) rotors with a set of the Centric-Stoptech Street Performance pads. They are all available at RockAuto for a very reasonable cost with no added tax, but with shipping. Amazon carries them too, but they're more expensive, so if you have Prime, you can weigh the higher cost plus tax against the free shipping. Here are the Rock Auto prices:

(assuming 2008 G35X)
Centric Premium Rotors w/ E-coating:
fronts: #12042080 are $104 for the pair
rears: #12042088 are $68 for the pair

Centric StopTech Street Performance Sport pads:
fronts: #30908880 are $49 per set
rears: #30909050 are $37 per set

TOTAL = 104 + 68 + 49 + 37 = $258 (plus shipping), so probably no more than $300 (tops!) for good solid, dependable, high quality, name brand parts from trusted company.

Then add to that a few hours of labor, and you can see it should be way less than those quotes you got. Be aware, that one that quoted you $650 was probably using parts of lesser quality that those Centric parts I listed.

I have this very combo on my car (albeit a Sport model), as do quite a few others here, and it is definitely a much better quality brake setup than the factory parts.

Correct, don't really care about having any slotted or drilled rotors.

Thanks a lot for this info and I will take a look into the Centric parts.

Those centric rotors are decent for the price. If your concerned about rust forming in your rotors like the oem ones then those rotors are not what you want. They are partially e-coated. There will be a ring around the unswept area on the rotor that will rust no matter what. You want the full e-coated rotors from centric. Centric doesn't have that option but places like CZP performance and z1 motor sports have them.

So I have been reading the reviews of Centric StopTech Street Performance Sport pads mentioned above and there seems to be a lot of brake dust with these.

I am not looking for anything high performance but I would like to keep brake dust to a minimum if possible. So if anyone has any helpful recommendations, it would be appreciated.

If you hate brake dust, just get ceramic pads.

Anyone ever used Power Stop Z23 Evolution Brake Pads or Centric Posi Quiet Ceramic Brake Pads?

Hard to find reviews written specifically for the G35.

Simple solution, check our Marketplace under vendor brakes for the best prices. The brake pads I use are HAWK HPS pads, better braking and very, very low dust. I'd replace all four pads even though your fronts may have a little more life. If you decide on Hawk pads Search bed in process Hawk pads for 30% better stopping ability, takes 10 minutes and you're good to go for 25K miles...Gary
