OEM Navigation Update for 2007-2009 G Sedan - $79 plus installation

Just want to share the latest sales of the OEM navigation map update for $79 for the following cars:

EX 2008 - 2009
FX 2009
G Coupe 2008 - 2009
G Sedan 2007 - 2009
G Convertible 2009
M 2008 - 2010
QX56 2008 - 2010

Note that 2010+ G37 map is DVD based, no dealership installation needed

My local dealer charges half an hour labor to have it updated, around $68 plus tax. Of course you can always use your smart phone for navigation. Since I haven't has the map updated since 2008, for $150 I don't think it is a bad deal. It used to cost $150 just for the map itself. I will report back to see if there is any real improvement.

I received the flyer as well. Even though I've never updated the navigation system since purchasing the car back in September 2008, I don't feel like I'm missing anything and "need" to update it. However, I was going to do so since $79 seems relatively cheap but then I saw that the dealership had to do the update/installation.

Why does the dealer have to perform the update?

The 2007 - 2014 V36 (G35/G37/Q40) navigation are HDD based. For model year 2007-2009, dealer need to hook up their factory computer to perform the map updates. For some reasons, (perhaps customer compliants?) Infiniti/Nissan switch the update method to DVD. 2010+ owner can update their map from a sets of DVDs. I heard it will take 2 hours and the car need to stay on for the whole time.

They still charge $129 for the DVD set for the 2010+ owners. So the price is comparable to the 2007-2009's $79 updates plus installation.

Because on these model years, the maps are installed onto the on-board hard drive. Only the Infiniti Tech's computer can interface with our on-board hard drives to update the software. There is no other way to do it.

I don't know if it's been updated since your post but I just checked on line (same $79 price) but the date is 2015! Am I reading that correctly? They're selling a maps database that's 2 years (nearly 3 years now) old?

I would consider updating if it was more current but why would I buy something so far out of date?

Like many I usually use my smart phone but occasionally if I'm in some location that doesn't get cell service I can still count on the built-in navigation in my cars.

Thanks!
Larry.

That's exactly why I keep a garmin nuvi in my console still, lifetime updates and it works as long as it finds a gps satellite.

I sent Here (the company that manufactures the navigation updates) an e-mail asking about this. Turns out yes, 2015 is the most current and no more will be made. Here's the reply:
Thank you for contacting Infiniti Navigation Center. Unfortunately, this map update is the final release for your 2007 G35. We do apologize for the inconvenience.
Honda is still making updates for my '06 Pilot and Infiniti (supposedly a high-end company) stops making updates after 8 years? So much for expecting any type of longevity with their electronics!

Larry.

Larry Thank you for posting that information. I noticed that in 2016 when I updated. What irritates me is that the dealer SHOULD HAVE caught the fact I ALREADY HAD 2015 version . So not only did I get ripped off by ASSUMING the updated version was for 2016 but the dealer charged me 60 bucks to boot. Even though it has been a year since the update - I am going back to the dealer and get a credit. The dealership in my town has always been fair with me. As for the the *******s who DELIBERATELY market that software as CURRENT - well I just say people like that are pathetic with no moral compass. Ya gotta pity the lost bastards.
Had you not verified my suspicion I would not be acting on this so thank you sir for the information.

Another Larry
