Intermittent inteligent key
Intermittent inteligent key
Hi there.
I could really use some help. Both of my inteligent keys work about 50% of the time to unlock or lock the doors and I usually have to be within a few feet for it to work at all. It has been this way since I bought the car used.
I have replaced the batteries multiple times with confirmed good batteries.
What could the issue be? Thanks!

Possibly the antenna, try standing back a ways where it does NOT function, hold the fob to your chin, try the buttons.
If it works then your antenna is probably screwed.
No I'm not just ****ing with you, chin fob is a real thing...

For those who might have a similar problem I determined it was the LED light bulbs I got from superbrightleds.com. The keyfob wouldnt work until the interior lights turned off. Crazy but the interference from the LEDs was messing up the keyfob signal.
That's wild. Wouldnt have thought that could be a thing.
It is a good lesson for others using non OEM parts that can cause unforeseen problems.
The key FOB for my Q70 emits an RF signal that lights up the door handle as I approach my vehicle in the dark.
The TPMS sensors also emit an RF signal in the Gz range to a receiver behind the glove box. On my previous 2012 G37S I had purchased a car charger with USB output that ended up turning on my TPMS light every time I passed a cell tower.
It took well over a month and many trips to the dealer before the trouble was pin pointed to that particular Chinese made car charger that interfered with the TPMS RF signals.
Lesson learned is beware of any non OEM products and be prepared to remove them if any weird problems arise.
