2003 vs 2008 auto transmission difference
I posted a few weeks ago about the difference in my 2008 G and my wife's 2003 G as far as acceleration. Her seems "quicker" going from a dead stop up to 4th gear. I thought it might be due to throttle response. I'm now wondering if it's the difference in transmissions. Her 2003 seems to shift to the next gear quicker than my 2008 does. These are the gear ratios for each. Are these different enough between the two vehicles to produce a noticeably different feel while accelerating? If not, I've read about these transmissions "learning" based on your driving style. Both cars were purchased used so any "learned" behavior was already there.
2003 2008
1st 3.54 3.84
2nd 2.26 2.35
3rd 1.47 1.53
4th 1.00 1.00
5th .83 .84

One factor that can cause a difference is simply the "tuning" that Infiniti has programmed in the system and there are variables here, from performance to government-mandated fuel economy requirements.
Lastly, the "learned" behavior of the auto-transmission is ALWAYS learning. If you or your wife drive similarly to the previous owners, it won't see much change (obviously). If either of you drive drastically different, it will adapt to your styles and can adjust quicker than people think. If the previous owners had the car for 4 years, it doesn't mean it will take 4 years to adapt to your behavior.

When you said shifts quicker, at first I thought you meant at the speeds it shifts but do you mean the 'pause' between 1st and 2nd, 2nd and 3rd, and so on ? The gear ratios don't have anything to do with that, I'm certain. It's the torque converter that takes care of this (like a clutch does in a manual transmission).

It shifts at lower RPMs but is quicker or feels quicker ? Any variations in shift points are going to come down to throttle position and between the two cars, there's probably no way to make them equal unless you put both to the floor.
Are you going full throttle ? If you are, what speed are you going in the '08 when it shifts from 3rd to 4th ? According to the transmission section of the FSM, you should be going around 87 to 93 mph. Are you anywhere near that speed ?
