2007 G35x been fine since I bought it use a few weeks ago, until today. Started fine, lots of rain, got out to pick up a pizza, got back in, wouldn't start. Amber colored key symbol lights up on tach. Read it may be steering wheel lock issue, or intelligent key issue. Put the fob in the port, still won't start. Tried second fob, no go. Tried replacing battery, nope. Disconnected car battery, took out weird 3 bank fuse, replaced - nada. Also read about the recall for the fobs having issues.
Any other suggestions? Does the dealer need the fob & car to be present for reprogramming? Would it be worth replacing the steering wheel lock module? I saw an ad on ebay for a replacement fob & port, would that do it? Wish it was like my 2011 Rogue, where I could put the regular metal key in the ignition and go.
The intelligent key has a transponder chip inside, the body control module (BCM) of the vehicle is programmed to recognize the exact transponders in your i-key (up to 5 keys). If BOTH your fobs suddenly stoppped working I would suspect either the BCM itself has failed or the antenna has failed.
Some locksmiths have the necessary computer to reprogram the BCM and some don't, call around.
I would start by THOROUGHLY inspecting the area around the BCM for potential water damage.

Thank you for the quick reply. It's hard to tell the location from that drawing, is it inside the cabin?
Got back to the car yesterday, and by a video I saw online, tapped the steering lock module. The amber key light was still lit, but the car started. I turned it off, got out, got back in and it started again. At this point I drove it home, eventually the amber key light went out.I went looking for the BCM location, and while I was hunting, I saw a wire running the height of the lower panel near the foot area of the passenger side. “Wonder what the previous owner had going on in there”? I popped off the panel, and there was the BCM with a whole slew of wires & components spliced into it. Someone had added a remote starter and did a sloppy job of installing it. I wanted to remove it, but I wanted to make sure that by doing so I wouldn’t immobilize the car. I started by unhooking the wiring harness that delivered power. No amber key warning light, car started normally. Unplugged some more wiring harnesses, car still started. A lot of the wires were spliced into the wiring for the BCM and it easy to identify what was stock & what was added on, so I unplugged the rest of the modules & relays and cut the aftermarket wires. Car starts and runs fine.I also checked the BCM and the area around it for water/wetness but didn’t find any. Prior to the initial trouble, as I was pulling into the parking spot, I forgot how low the front bumper is (coming from driving a Rogue for 6 years) so I did hear a good crunch. I’m uncertain which factors led to the problem, but hopefully adding some water proofing (just in case) and getting rid of the aftermarket electronics, I’ll be good to go.
Yeah it was probably all caused by that remote start, just make sure to cap off each of those spliced wires if they used C-taps (ones that crimp the existing wire and tap in a second wire). You can cut the wire really close to the c-tap and wrap it tightly with electrical tape, use GOOD tape though like 3M brand Super 35, the cheapo electrical tape will peel off after a year.
