You're system is empty. No refrigerant. If it's like my FX, it's a 3 wire plug so you cannot jump it to fill it. I had to get it filled with dye, find the leak, fix the leak and get it filled again. $300 bones later and everythings back to normal.
You filled it yourself? If you did it yourself, you were probably able to just pushed it in due to the leak but it didn't hold....because of the leak. If you took it somewhere and they used the vacuum type equipment, there should be a leak that was detected. If refrigerant is accepted into the system and the clutch doesn't engage, ya need a new compressor. You might be able to get a new clutch though? I never got that far into it.
Hey CraigVMN,
There’s a seller on eBay that sells the ac clutch for the g35 vqhr engine. I’ve been in what sounds the same situation as yours and went ahead and replaced the clutch myself. Not too difficult to do or special tools required except snap ring pliers. Use the service manual to help you remove the fans, air filter housing, and to loosen up the ac compressor. This solved my ac problem and the compressor has been kicking strong for about two years since I’ve changed the clutch. Hope this helps.
As it turns out, the relay is built into the IPDM and is not replaceable, outside of replacing the entire IPDM. The compressor clutch is not engaging.
I just ran across this searching for why my compressor is not engaging. The FSM shows the relay in the IPDM, but the only relay you can see is the starter relay. I was thinking it must be part of the IPDM and how utterly stupid that would be! Craig, are you certain this is the case as I suspect?
Well, my problem is the compressor, not the IPDM relay. Have 12vdc at the connector, but it is not engaging. Oh well, it is 12 years old with 190k miles on it.
This prob might be fixed but for everyone else's headache… I have a 2009 G37 but mine was located behind the fuse box on the driver side. You have to remove the plastic panels and push up on the releases and the fuse box will be adjustable just a little. It’s hard to turn around but you can access the A/C relay. I think it’s the bottom one but they all look the same so…
