Alright everyone, just wanna say thanks for the help in advance. I was driving when the car died. Tried to turn the car over but seems like it was stuck. Took it to a shop and they showed me the chunky milk chocolate substance. What they said was that coolant leaked into my engine due to anbroken head gasket. I'm not a car guru by any means. They're thinking that it's blown and will need to be replaced. Wanted to get your thoughts on this. 08 g35 with 140k miles on it.

And no I don't think I've seen signs of this happening other than coolant leaking from a radiator hose which I don't think would have led to that. Again TKS in advance!

 

Chunky and milky? Definitely a head gasket BUT it's super odd and rare to hear about a head gasket failure on these cars. What's the car history like? Any recent overheating or cooling issues? Head gaskets just don't blow out of the blue. Usually there are signs beforehand.

 

Car history is pretty clean, I'm the 2nd owner. Regular oil changes. Only things I haven't done are spark plugs and the coolant leak from the hoses that I mentioned. In terms of over heating, I've kept my eyes on the temp gauge especially with the radiator hoses needing replacement other than that, I haven't noticed any other signs. What are some things I would have seen beforehand? One other thing, there were no puddles of coolant leaking either ...tks.

 

Have them do a compression test to verify cylinder integrity. Change the oil and filter, start the motor and run it for an hour and see if it's milky again.

Have this work done at an independent shop or do it yourself.

This rules out that the shop sabotaged your vehicle which unfortunately has been known to happen.

Chances are you have a blown head gasket though, definitely not common on the HR motor.

 

@ Cleric. Tks. So with it being chunky and sludgey, I can still drain the oil? When I try to start it, seems like it doesn't want to turn over at all. Tks!

 

Ok then I suggest removing the drive belts and turning the engine by hand (socket on the crank pulley bolt). If you cannot turn it then the motor is likely siezed or had some other catastrophic mechanical failure.

Well for them to just take the drive belts off and try to turn the motor by hand will be about 1 hour of labor.

Alright guys first I want to say thanks to everyone that helped, the almost final verdict is that it's a blown head gasket....so the car is toast. Replacing the engine will cost between 5-7k of which I don't have to spare at the moment. Wanted to see what your thoughts are at this point? Should I post and see if someone wants to buy a car with no engine hoping they can do the work themselves? Do I junk it? Strip it and sell for parts?

 

5 to 7k is absurd. I replaced my engine for about 700 bucks in my driveway. It's not super difficult if you have a guide to help you out. There's a guide posted by me somewhere on here and also cleric and everyone else here will definitely help you out. I was in the same boat but there are cheaper options if ya wanna get ya hands dirty

 

I don't mind getting my hands dirty but definitely need a good guide. Only car work I've done is putting in a new radio, replaced taillights on my wife's Murano, and...headlights.....😀

 

Yikes! Didn't read the first paragraph even though I responded earlier in the thread smh. You have an hr motor. Never removed one of those unfortunately but! I always save links and various information on cars that I buy (just bought a hr 2 months ago) and I saw a nice detailed video on YouTube detailing an engine removal on a hr motor.
