Exhaust questions
I have a 2007 G35 sedan (obviously, as I am posting In that models sub section of the forum)
I have the magnaflow catback part number16826 and I would like my car just to be a bit louder and if possible have a deeper tone. I am not sure what the best way to achieve this is as I'm relatively new to modifying cars. From what I've read I can do a few things like test pipes, high Flow cats, long tube headers, and muffler deletes. I've been leaning more towards the HFC as Ive been told that test pipes and muffler deletes don't sound good but I don't have any actual experience with this so I was hoping someone who knows a lot about the G could help me out. I've checked YouTube but honestly sound quality is pretty poor on a lot of videos

I don't know if you made a change since late August, but I went through lots of research before changing my stock exhaust and decided that Berk HFC's were worth the money. Have you noticed how often Coupes have a deeper, more pleasing sound in spite of having the same engine as our sedans? Well, my guess is that a much higher percentage of coupes are modified, compared to sedans, and what you are hearing are high flow cats. I paid close to list, and they're worth it.
This is why I have not installed HFC's. I would like the performance boost they provide but don't want my G to be louder than it already is. I have Fast Intentions cat back with 2.25" dia tubing and 18" resonator options. I chose FI because of many reviews about how quiet their system is compared to others, as well as build quality and appearance. Great system but a bit loud to me. Everyone comments about how nice my car sounds on the outside, passing by. But I am sitting inside of it and with windows up, it is loud, especially around 1500rpm and 24-2600rpm where there is some resonance. I drive at these low rpms around town in traffic, commuting to work so this gets annoying. At anything above 3000rpm though, it sounds sweet. It is fun in the summer with windows half way down, sounds great. I just fear high flow cats would be really too loud for me. I have also noticed the resonance at low rpms varies with temperature and humidity a fair amount.
I actually liked stock exhaust sound, with windows down so I could hear it. Very well tuned and no resonance anywhere. It appears a lot of effort went into tuning stock exhaust for right sound / no resonance. Just check all the resonant frequency dampers installed on stock system, there are at least 4 if not 6. Only problem was it was so quiet with windows up, it was hard to know when to shift gears by ear, I have 6MT.
I got car dyno tuned to optimize tune for exhaust and aFe Pro 5R air filters. Runs well, acceleration is more immediate and crisp. Nice job on tune.
