How to replace rear license plate light bracket on 2008 g35 sedan (SOLVED)

Today I discovered that one of my license plate lights was hanging out on the harness. It turned out the rear license light bracket had rusted and deteriorated to the point it couldn't hold the light assembly anymore (all the plastic clips on lights were fine and intact). I can find the replacement part, OEM or aftermarket but don't know how to replace the light bracket. Can anyone tell me how to do it? Thank you!

Usually things like this are a simple matter of removing the muffler which might be in the way, then just looking up under the rear skirt of the car to see how the bracket is bolted or clipped on.

I think you're mistaken. "Remove muffler"? The license plate lights bracket sits in the bumper cover, has nothing to do with muffler.

Its been a few years since I did it, but it is very simple. Just 2 screws to release the light bracket and then it slips out.. If you look at the new bracket, it should be obvious.

Ok I haven't worked much on the V36 platform, on the V35 coupe you sort of have to remove the muffler to do anything on the rear of the car.

Thank you. I haven't received the part yet but it looks exactly as you described, just removing two screws.

INFINITI G35x
I recently replaced the rear license plate bracket on my 2006 INFINITI G35x sedan when I was doing body work on the rear bumper. If you are replacing the old bracket, you may have to remove the bumper to be able to insert the lights into the new bracket if the bracket bolts are badly rusted or stripped, which is very common. You can reach the two bracket screws without removing the bumper, but handling the harness is difficult without doing so. It can be time consuming.

For my 2008 G35 sedan it took me about 10 minutes to replace my completely rusted and deteriorated license plate lights bracket. I ordered the aftermarket part on eBay for $37. When it arrived I removed two screws on the bumper that held the bracket. There are two plastic grommets inserted in the bracket and the screws are plastic as well so they were not rusted and could be removed easily. The harness and light wires are long enough to work outside the bumper. So I removed the lights, disconnected the wires and removed the old bracket, then installed the new bracket with the wires hanging out. Reconnected wires to the lights and installed them on the new bracket.
Easy project.

Thanks for that useful information. I need to tackle this as well. Would you mind linking the after market bracket you purchased that worked so well?
