Engine and Transmission Mounts

My 2008 X-Sport has 142K miles and I'm starting to wonder if I should have the engine and transmission mounts replaced.

No one has really told me they've gone bad but given the mileage/age if they need to be replaced or close to that point.

Can anyone please tell me how many mounts of each are there? i've searched and could not find a straight answer.

Also, if doing at the dealer, wondering how much it would cost..

TIA for any answers.

I have never replaced ANY motor/tranny mounts in any vehicle unless they were broken. just raise the hood, and from the driver seat one foot on the brake, the other on the gas pedal, and slowly give it gas and watch how much your engine tries to turn over. This is in >drive< then do the same thing is reverse gear, and watch the motor, specifically how much it moves.

It's very uncommon for the 5AT equipped vehicles to wear out the engine and tranny mounts. Especially if it's just driven normal street/highway use.

Those are things you replace on a 6MT equipped models because they take a bit more of a beating, or track-use vehicles, or higher horsepower than stock.

The slushbox 5AT really smooths out the load on those mounts, pretty typical of most vehicles.

Your rear differential bushings however, those are likely long overdue for replacement if you still have the OEM rubber ones.

I have the same question as geronimomoe. I have a 2007 G35X sedan with approximately 164,000 miles. My kids usually drive it but today I drove it. I noticed the rearview mirror vibrating more than I've seen in any car I've owned. There isn't anything extraordinary about the vehicle or its current state. I will try as Triton3.5 suggests and see how much the engine moves under load.

I own a 2011 BMW M3 coupe with a DCT (dual clutch transmission) which had worn out motor mounts at about 75,000 miles. I didn't notice their status, my mechanic found them. That engine is about 414 hp and I was tracking it about once per month so I wasn't surprised they needed replacing.

geronimomoe, you can go to https://www.infinitioforlandparkpart...tailLogin.aspx and enter your VIN. Then you can dig deeper to examine parts for your car. They offer various sales and free shipping under certain conditions. My car has two motor mounts and two dynamic dampers which appear to dampen transmission movement. I will need to have a trained mechanic examine as I don't wish to throw money away on parts if they aren't required. I order parts from rockauto.com for a few other cars I own and the motor mounts are about 1/3 the sale price from Infiniti of Orland Park. I am not familiar with Westar, Anchor or DEA/Marmon Ride Control which are the manufacturers/remanufacturers offered on rockauto for my car. Is anyone familiar with these companies?

Plus, tires out of balance, and or bent wheels, can make a mirror vibrate a bit, plus up here in Minn. when I drive the car in snow and have a little fun drifting, my wheels fill up with snow, and I physically have to take a wooden stick and push all the snow off the barrel of all the wheels!

Good points. I now realize I left out an important tidbit. I was noting the vibration while stationary—not moving.
