SRS airbag light flashing code 15??

2007 G35 w/ 110k miles. Airbag light started flashing out of nowhere. Looks like a code 15 to me (Video #1). Can anyone confirm? Want to make sure the code isn't a 51. Sorry if that is a stupid thing to ask...

Also, when I try to reset the airbag module by turning the car on/off 3 times, the airbag light then flashes in a different/consistent patern (Video #2). Not sure what, if anything, I'm doing wrong here or what that means.

From searching online, I see code 15 information here: https://airbagcode.com/infiniti-g35/15 I can't seem to find much else.

I've checked both connectors below the seats. Nothing is standing out to me as wrong. I've done as much research as I could but I'm stumped so here I am... Could anyone smarter than me point me in the right direction? TIA!

You're not in diagnostic mode, that's just the basic "there's something wrong, get it serviced flash pattern" that happens every time you turn the key to the ON position. 7 sec on, 5 flashes if there's an error. 7sec on and NO FLASHES if there are no errors.

Once it is in diagnostic mode it will always be 7sec on, 2sec off, 3sec on, 2sec off, quick flashes 1-11 times depending on error, 2sec off, 3 sec on. Then it repeats a total of 3 times.

If there are multiple codes it will list them all in sequence and it will repeat EVERYTHING 3 total times.

Thanks, Cleric. Appreciate the response. I'm still a bit confused though and apologize if it's my own lack of knowledge getting in the way.

Video #2 is a consistent flash. 7sec on, 2ish sec off, 0.5sec on, 0.5sec off, 0.5sec on, 0.5sec off, repeat and never ending. I assumed this was the generic "something is wrong get it checked out" flash pattern.

Video #1 is what I got after doing the ignition on/off and what I thought was diagnostic mode throwing a code 15: 7sec on, 2 sec off, 3sec on, 2sec off, 5 quick blinks. This seems to repeat over and over and never ending. Are you saying the 5 blinks corresponds to the error? If so, is there any way I can narrow down what the issue is based of these 5 blinks?

Or.. are you saying I haven't even been able get to diagnostic mode by properly performing the ignition on/off steps?

Thanks again!

Video #1 I see 7sec on, then 5 pulses (this is the generic something is wrong flash)

Video #2 I see just the engine running (can't have the engine running for diagnostic mode) and the SRS light is constantly flashing.

Neither of them shows 7on, 2off, 3on, 2off.

If you did get it into diagnostic mode in some point off those videos and it gave you 5 quick pulse flashes that's one of two things, do it again and compare to this picture.

The "code" is just the number of quick flashes the light makes during the 0.5off 0.5on sequence, you just count the number of flashes, it will be between 1 and 11 flashes. There is no code 15, it's NOT a 2-part flash sequence like OBD1 used to do where the long flashes was the first digit, short flashes was the second digit.

Unfortunately 5 flashes could be either that right curtain airbag or the diagnostic control module, look at the other flashes around it.

Alternately you can call around to local auto parts houses and see if their scanner does B-body codes, all those SRS codes are body codes so if their scanner does body and has ISO9141-2 protocol then it can just read the code.

Your mom's boyfriend
I had the same issue and after diagnosing it , it turned out to be a faulty seat airbag which is not uncommon.

I didn't want to tear apart the seat and install a new airbag, so I just left it.

Probably not the best answer or the answer you're looking for but good luck.

Thanks so much for the image, Cleric. Tremendous help. It is definitely the 7sec/3sec/5 flashes which indicates the occupant classification system. I now realize I didn’t give you a great video to diagnose it…, the site made me downsize so I had to cut out the 7sec part.

Assuming it’s a bad sensor in the seat cushion, would the easiest way to fix this issue be to replace the entire passenger seat with a used one? There are plenty of G35 part outs around me and I’m sure I could find one.

Also... I found a recall possibly relating to this. Anyone know if the dealer might be willing to fix or am I way past the recall timeframe? It’s only been about 14 years….

Call your local Infiniti and have them look up your VIN number for recalls, they don't expire.

Resolution

For future reference, in case anyone experiences the same issue and comes across this thread.. my 1 long flash, 5 short flashes code in the video was indicative of a malfunctioning Occupant Classification System (thanks, Cleric!). Assumed it was the passenger seat sensor, so I installed an Airbag360 emulator. That did take care of the airbag light, however, the seatbelt light then came on. Easiest fix for that was to unplug the seatbelt clip below the passenger seat.

No more dash lights!
