TSB - ITB17-026b - FUEL TANK IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO FILL

I noticed today on my '07G35x it was extremely difficult to fill the car. I could only barely feed gas into the tank which was slightly below half full. I gave up at one gas station and same behavior at another one. I am wondering if I am affected by this TSB. I'll need to inspect these hoses that they say can be blocked.

My car it was these two lines into the tank that was the culprit. Just wait until you're at like half a tank of gas to do this repair, I had visible accumulation the little rubber hoses and a little gunk up the tube going back to the fill neck. I used brake cleaner and some of those really bristly scrubber pipe cleaners to clean out the rubber part, then shot a bunch of brake cleaner up the metal tube up to the fill neck and used compressed air to blast it up the tube.

The part going into the tank seemed fine though, I think it ends up with some dust/grime sediment winding up in the rubber 90 degree fitting over time as it filters down from the fill neck.

My car actually had this same problem when I had just bought it. The first few weeks I would fill my tank until it overflowed. After a while the problem went away on its own. Im not sure if that had anything to do with it though.

@cleric670 Thanks!!!! Gonna dive into it in the next few weeks.

Never been an issue before so doubtful on the older TSB dealing with in-tank issue… but the clogged line one you dealt with is more plausible.

What's weird is mine was only an issue if I tried to fill up the tank when it was below freezing.

That is a tight area to work without dropping a bunch of stuff. I ended up disconnecting the first rubber line from the metal filler vent line.

I had some long flex straw I was able to snake upward and could hear the brake fluid coming out into the fill spout. I could also hear it going into the gas tank.

I'll see if that cleaning helps at all before I tear into it deeper.

Awesome, I'm going on about 2 years after cleaning mine out and haven't had any more issues. I'm sure it will pop up again someday.

Problem came back last week.. noticed some debris cleaning out at the short junction piece of hose that attaches the metal lines together. Snaked both ends with long straws attached to brake cleaner. Gas fill is back to normal.

Might try give a good shot of brake cleaner from top vent hole every 6 months to keep buildup at bay.

Sorry, I'm not very good with cars so please excuse the question - which is the top vent hole? And is it easy to get to?

If you look at the fourth post in the thread from Cleric, he has circled it in red.

Thank you. It looks like the way to reach that is from under the car? Sorry for the dumb questions.
