ticking/knocking sound inside the car
ticking/knocking sound inside the car
I got another low milage g after totaling my last one (new one got 67k) and I am currently experiencing an odd sound when I put my foot on the gas an rev it high. It almost sounds like a knock but is more of a tick. Seems to be when it revs over 4k rpms that the gas pedal-brake area inside the cabin makes a quiet ticking sound but it is loud enough where u can notice it in drivers seat over music. I will try to get a video next time I am out. Noticed it last night after a long day of driving and this morning on the commute to work after revving the engine to 4k when it was warmed up.(its def not the engine making the “knock” im hearing btw)
I know that the car has an exhaust leak since I got it because I caught it leaking out the mufflers a couple times. I brought my car in for an oil change after purchasing and was told that it would fail inspection due to rusted out crossmembers front and rear. Driving home from the oil change I got a P340 engine code of course that was for the cats. They fully checked my exhaust system along with the rest of the car and said it was fine and didn’t even see the leak I warned them about, then lone behold I get a SES light like 5 miles out from the oil change and them checking my car “thoroughly.”
Anyways, the dealership replaced the cats and the rusted out bat wing for me but I still have the exhaust leak. I read somewhere on the forums that an exhaust leak could make a tick noise so it was worth mentioning. I have noticed the leak at least 3 times and only once since the cats got replaced but there is def a small leak somewhere.
Back to the sound, it is a odd sound that I would of noticed on the test drives so I am concerned about it popping up and want to pin point it cause i’m bringing the car to get oil pan replaced and the exhaust leak sorted out some time next week. Any help is appreciated I am going to try and get a video of it later probably impossible to help without one.

So I managed to capture the sound on video. It is a little hard to hear as expected but if you listen close enough you can def hear some sort of tapping/ticking when I am flooring it.
Going to check them later tonight, according to the car fax the spark plugs were done in the last service before the car was sold to the dealer at 66,750 miles and I hit 68k this morning so less than 1300 miles driven since those were done probably has something to do with it. I started hearing it like 500 miles ago too so something probably came loose, will keep updated.
