I did the usual, swapped coils, swapped plugs and even changed the injectors.
still got rough idle and the code.
I tried testing the coil and plug by pulling it and firing up the car, and didn't get spark.
I have one of those probe testers that you wire up to the battery and it tells you if it is pos, neg, and voltage.
with the key off, I see all 3 on the coil go to neg, but what I think is the trigger wire has a weaker signal for lack of a better term.
when they are all neg, the 2 other terminals have a brighter light. vs the signal terminal.
with key on, the power terminal turns positive.
it may or may not be related. I took the whole front of the engine apart to do the gallery gasket repair. it started instantly after putting it together.
idled fine for a min then threw that p0305 code.
not sure if I damaged something taking it apart for that. don't think so, but wanted to give all the info just in case.
any idea's on what next? is the ecu a common failure here, cause baring wiring I can't see what else.
did you swap the #5 coil/plug into a different slot to see if the code follows? when you pulled your injectors, was the rail nice and clean? (i.e., no rust, etc.) did you put the oem injectors back in? cyl. 5 sits all the way back to the firewall, so i doubt it would be the fist one to give you issues if you messed something up while doing the galley gaskets. did you mess with the chains at all? iirc, you shouldn't have to if doing just the gaskets.
Check out my post here: Long cranking times post #10 shows you how to check the ignition coil and make sure it has the transistor in it. The VQ35HR have transistor ignition coils, this is what i use and have no issues: Hitachi IGC0003 Ignition Coil.
I did drop the chain when I did the gallery gaskets. I lined the timing marks back up and put the chain on and didn't seem to have any issues turning it over by hand. also I would expect more than 1 cylinder to have issues if I screwed up the timing.
I swapped plug 1 with 5, coil 1 with 5 and put coil 5 on 3 and coil 3 on 1, so I didn't have to swap plugs a second time.
didn't move.
I swapped injectors out to a whole new set.
no change.
do a compression test next and see what that cylinder shows. also, can you log your AFR at wot and see if the banks are showing anything different? torque or any other app should work for that. should help rule out the pump issues.
did the misfire start happening right after the gasket job or some time afterwards?
Here is a diagram for your 08 Journey, check the wiring.
Could be the coil plug, the wires on Nissan vehicles are no better than Ford ones after 15+ years..
I sent the computer to G7 having seen someone else use them. either they didn't do anything or the problem isn't in the computer.
thanks for the diagram. I will start running that down.
is there any instructions on pulling the harness from the engine overall?
any other recommendations for the computer if it turns out the wiring is good?
any chance someone still has a nos harness?
I saw a post notification but it isn't here.
I want to say I didn't just send out the computer.
I used a power probe on the ends to check continuity, as best as it could.
I unplugged the computer and fired power down each line to check to see if it was grounding out somewhere for 5 and for 1.
the passenger bank acts differently than the driver bank for signal to the coils as well.
I tested 1, 5 and 2 for key off, and key on for signal, power and ground. did it for the injectors as well.
not convinced it isn't the computer, but next thing to do is take the harness off as far as possible and walk through it.

Reason: add info
You rushed into sending the ECM out just like that huh.. Have you read the FSM? FSM here Get yours and do proper troubleshooting before you start sending out modules and waste money.. You can't rule out the engine bay harness until you actually find a broken wire or plug which is repairable. The FSM has good info and a lot of help. Issues like these are very hard to diagnose over the web..
is it possible to have timing off and only cause a misfire on 1 cylinder?
I am pretty sure I lined it all back up, but it only happened at 2k rpm before sending the computer out and is now only showing at 3k rpm.
at idle the check engine light goes out. code goes pending.
