Fuel economy and women

The styling/improved interior of the new G35 will definitely appeal more to women than the current generation and women happen to make the buying decisions in many households. While many women appreciate sporty vehicles which perform well, they also appreciate refinement and value. Fuel economy with gas prices over $3 or $4 will influence their decisions, therefore many of these women will expect the G35 to have similar fuel economy as the competition (Lexus, BMW).

Just one thing I'm sure Nissan has taken into account.

They may have taken it into account, but I doubt you'll see any major changes other than a 6-speed in the next couple years or so.
If we're real lucky, Infiniti MIGHT bring over their 210hp 2.5L VQ25DE....

Wasn't there talk about Infiniti introducing a new entry-level sedan (which would probably use the 2.5L engine) ?

I am sure they have looked at it but made a judgement call to go after strictly HP and not economy. At the time of the next gen VQ design, gas was not @ $3+/gal but I think they are getting nervous right now before the November rollout. BMW introduced its twin turbo with 300 HP and 300 Lb/ft Tq @ 1400 RPM today! Quite inpressive and even more impressive is the promise to be as good or beter that the current 330i (21/30). The spiraling gas prices + the turbo has been enough to sway me back to BMW even though their dealers are snobs, and the G35 gives more car for the money. Its sucks to see 16MPG on my current VQ, it making me stay home and cancelling trips!

Not that I can't afford the gas even at $5/gal. But here's what urkes me.

G35 sedan (~3400lbs) - 16.5mpg EPA 18/26 (my A$$)
C300 SRT-8 (~4000lbs) - 19mpg EPA 14/20
Volvo XC90T6 (4800lbs.) - 18mpg EPA 15/20

Same commute route. Same type of fuel.

I don't know about the T6 but the 300c can thank the cylinder deactivation for it's fuel economy. I've said it before and I'll say it again, Nissan's engines are raw power. There isn't a huge amount of tech that goes into them like Chrysler's Hemis.

I would have had no problem with 16.5mpg if my car sticker were to say so.
G35 by far has the most off-base EPA estimate I've ever seen.

You must have a heavy foot... I check my MPG everytime I fill up and im getting 19 mpg around town and when I make long trips on the highway I get close to 26 mpg. Although I do have the MT6, not sure that makes a difference but it might..

6MT makes a huge difference.
If I drive heavy-footed same commute will yield about 14.5mpg.
If I absolutely baby the car I might see 300miles on a full tank before gas light comes on.

To sum things up:

No improvement in fuel economy + gas prices continue to go up = good deals possible on the 2007 G35 a few months after release. There was no mention of improved fuel economy on the press release so either they're still working on it or...

You are right. They will have a hard time in Nov if gas prices or the same or higher and if they do not bring direct injection + other mods to bring ecomomy at least 2mpg. BMW and Lexus will have them for lunch even if they are cheaper $$ wise.

why is mpg worse with 6mt? I figured it would be better since you could just pop it into a 6th gear on the highway?

BTW, i usually get about 22mpg with the auto.
