Is there still an oil consumption issue with newer G's
Hi... I have an 06 G35 6MT... Mine is an oil burner... It's not quite bad enough to fail the oil consumption ITB (I check it myself) and I would prefer to not have the engine replaced anyway as I've heard they replace one oil burner with another... But otherwise, I like the car a lot...
I would consider buying a new 2012 G37 Coupe (6MT) or maybe even a Convertible (6MT) model but I'd like to hear what folks think or know about whether Infiniti ever solved the problem with oil consumption that was especially bad on the 05 - 07 G35 6MT's...
It would be great to hear from some of the folks who knew well the old issue with those 05 - 07 models who perhaps have since bought a G37... I need to learn whether it is still considered to be an issue or not... I, of course, know there can always be a lemon now and then... That's one thing... But what about large fractions of the newer G37's having oil consumption issues??? Is that still an issue with the G coupes??? Especially the 6MT versions???
Any feedback would be much appreciated... thanks...

If you're buying new you get a warranty so just pay attention to your oil levels (like any car owner should do) and you'll be fine. 9 times out of 10 people never check their oil so by the time they figure out they have a problem they either run dry and/or are out of warranty. A local guy has his 2010 G37 boosted for over a year and still not consuming a drop.

From what I have seen, there hasn't been the same oil consumption issue with the '08+ models in both, manual and auto. It seems as though Infiniti has resolved the oil burning issue. But, as you stated, there will always be the few "lemons" that seem to give the rest of the pack a bad image.

I was just wondering about this myself as I checked the oil on my new '12. It has about 330 miles on it and the oil is just above the low marker on the dipstick after sitting a couple of hours. I'm pretty sure this car was on the dealer lot for about 6 months before I drove it home, but they don't think that is an issue. How much oil do they put in at the factory?
