At 55k and the service engine light went on..
So today I was driving to school and suddenly the service engine soon light went on.. kinda scare the shxt out of me.. there are couple questions I wanna ask you guys.
1. First of all, I won't have time until this Friday to go to the dealership. Is it safe to drive with the service engine light on??
2. When the light comes up, does that mean I really need a engine service?
3. If I do my 55k service at somewhere else other than Infiniti dealership, would they be able to turn off the service engine light? I know some cars like Acura, they can only get their cars maintain at the dealership so they can turn off those light. Correct me if I am wrong.
I've never driven til a point that the service engine light went on, so it kind of scare me today the whole day. Any opinions are welcome! Thank you guys.

did you just fill up on gas? screw the cap on good, that's the most common problem, if that's it it'll go away after a while.
you can use a OBD2 scanner to check the codes and reset them, don't need to go to the dealer. some auto parts stores have ones you can borrow, check around.

before you do anything or spend any money i would disconnect the battery for about 15 mins to reset the comp and it will clear error codes. if it comes back on after you drive it again then you know you have a problem then you can either get a code reader or take it to the stealership.

More than likely it is probally a small problem such as the o2 sensor or cats may be going bad. I know mine came on after driving to NJ. i simply disconected the battery for a few and everything was cool.

I came back from a friend's dad's shop today and found out that my throttle body went bad.. Anyone here has changed their throttle body before? OEM or aftermarket? What brand?
I had a throttle body replacement under warantee, it was under the 70k powertrain warantee though so you should have a pretty good window to get it fixxed. I got a new oem from dealer of course but i'm sure there are aftermarket models out there, but why pay? just get a free dealer installed oem.
