Window frustration! More help please
Window frustration! More help please
I posted a short version of my trouble in another area, but may have put it in the wrong category. So I'll try again here with a full run down:
I purchased a used 2004 G35 coupe about two weeks ago. Has 40k miles.
I first experienced a problem when I rolled my window all the way down at a drive thru. After getting a little ways down the road I tried to roll it up and it wouldn't budge. No noise at all from the motor. Finally I slapped the door near the switch and it rolled up. After this it seemed to work off and on over the next week. Sometime it would work fine, and sometime it would stick halfway down.
After some Internet research it sounded to me like the motor was bad, which seems to be a common problem. I ordered a motor from advance auto and installed it(thanks for the helpful sticky on this btw).
After installing the motor I was disappointed to have pretty much the same result... Working occasionally for a few days, but now for the past several days it has stopped working altogether.
So now I'm wondering what could be wrong?? It seems unlikely that the old motor and the new one would both be bad unless possibly if there's some problem that is making the motors burn up. Is the switch a likely problem? The passenger window works perfect using both the driver and passenger door switch.
Another piece of info that might help: when I hold down the unlock button on the remote, it only rolls down the passenger window. This has me wondering how the remote works the windows? Does it send the signal to the window switch or to some other sensor in the car? Understanding exactly how this system is set up might could give some insight on what's going on.
Well, thanks for any help you guys may offer. Just trying to avoid taking to a dealership since I'm kinda broke from buying the thing. Lol

this happened on my 350z also. g35 and 350z share the same issue, the manufacturer put TOO MUCH GREASE in the bearings of the window regulator motor and it would gunk up and cause the conductors not to touch properly anymore. take it apart and wipe it clean, it will work for years and might happen again. it happened twice for me because i didn't clean enough of it out the 1st time.
the window regulator should really be called the window guide mechanical assembly; but the society of automotive engineers had to label it as regulator.... the motor is attached by 3 bolts that drives a gear that drives the mechanically assembly to move the window up and down.
so the regulator is not the window motor. window motor drives the regulator assembly.
so the regulator is not the window motor. window motor drives the regulator assembly.
