G35 Coupe Power Steering issue -- Dealer says lower U-Joint, What do you think?.
Hello all,
I am looking for some advice regarding an 04 G35 6mt coupe (90k miles) I have had for about a year.
This past winter (I live in upstate NY) I put the car into storage. When I took it out this summer my power steering seemed un-responsive, especially at specific turning angles. Looking online I saw mention that this could be related to the power steering angle sensor but just to be sure I decided to take the $60 plunge and have my local dealer diagnose it.
They came back and said that it was my Lower U-Joint causing the issue and that it would cost $270+Tax, a lot more than I expected to pay to fix my steering sensor.
My question is two fold:
1.) To people who have had a similar problem in the past, does this sound logical?
2.) Is it worth trying to replace the U-Joint myself? Given that the most experience I have with repairing this car is Brakes/Rotors and I don't have access to a lift, just jack stands etc.
Thanks in advance!
