AT 5th gear bypass?

5th gear is only useful at high speed in my opinion. Driving around the city in 5th will just make the car a slob.

Now since you don't want to have the transmission diagnosed, how do you know there isn't "shrapnel" eating away at the inside? Your opinion of 5th gear is yours but it is unwise to overlook what caused the problem.

It does go into 5th gear in earlier speeds but is completely unnecessary. I don't know why idiots here think the car car will overheat without it. If anything being in 5th at such low speeds causes more of a drag on the drivetrain making the engine work harder than it would without the gear.

Mr. TCM expert, the transmission chooses what gear based on the load point. More load, lower gear, but speed is a factor in this decision that the TCM makes. When you want power, the load point changes and it will downshift if possible at the given speed.
So you got the wiring diagram, did you fix your problem?

If you're currently in 5th and you switch to MM mode, the tranny automatically downshifts to 4th. Then you'll need to upshift again into 5th.
I cant remember what speed the RPM is at going 40, but you'll be able to shift into 5th if you're going at about 2100~2200RPM while in 4th. The RPM shift from 4th to 5th isnt very noticeable either unless you're in D mode and then the torque converter locks up. You'll notice it dips down even more as if you're in a non-existant 6th when the lock-up occurs.

Actually this is one of the things I like about the car. Torque. I think it is great that it will just power along without having to work at it. Up hills, no downshift. Just kinda going along nice and relaxed. Low stress. Cool. Calm. Easy. You should try it sometimes instead of always blazing a comet trail. You'll last longer.

The "D" mode actually shifts gears at even lower rpm than I usually do when in manual mode. I usually shift at 2500-3000 when in manual, when in D it shift around 2000-2200. So it get's up to 5th at roughly 40mph. If you switch from D to manual it will automatically downshift to 4th. So if this is how you determined that you are always in 4th, you are wrong. You always in 5th.

how do you know that you are in 5th gear? Do you shift manually? If yes, you need to start shifting to fifth at 40 or you will burn your trans fluid.
