AT 5th gear bypass?
how do you know that you are in 5th gear? Do you shift manually? If yes, you need to start shifting to fifth at 40 or you will burn your trans fluid.
The "D" mode actually shifts gears at even lower rpm than I usually do when in manual mode. I usually shift at 2500-3000 when in manual, when in D it shift around 2000-2200. So it get's up to 5th at roughly 40mph. If you switch from D to manual it will automatically downshift to 4th. So if this is how you determined that you are always in 4th, you are wrong. You always in 5th.

If you're taking it easy, then you'll shift at around 2200-2500 as joker said.
That depends if you're flooring it all the time. If you are, then yea it makes sense to shift higher.

damn ok I gotta try it out then ! im going to get all my fluids check tomorrow then because im in like 3rd gear at 40 lol

I checked mine yesterday and was running about 58 mph at 2800 rpms in 4th.
But since he never answered up to what special rear end gear he had, we'll never know.
And this doesn't make any sense. I could search around and find the gear ratios for 4th and 5th and the rear end, and then look up a speed to rpm calculator, but I'm pretty sure a stock G is not going to be turning 2800 in 4th gear at 70mph.

Debating the necessity of 5th gear is silly. I'm not sure why we chose to address that topic vs the actual malfunction of the transmission. I don't feel like revving at 4000RPM on the highway (AWD with shorter 3.3 ratio), so I would prefer to have my 5th gear working.
Simply answered, unless you are a Jatco engineer, reprogramming the Transmission shift logic to not shift to 5th gear would be difficult to impossible for the average consumer. It's not something the aftermarket demands either so no market exists to develop such programming. So that's a simple answer to the OP's question.
Now, the technical part. You really should fix your trans. 5th gear slippage is pretty common to the RE5R05A due to a leaky seal on the turbine shaft. Continual slippage will build heat which is the #1 enemy of auto transmissions and will lead to it's eventual failure. You'r solution is to keep driving in manumatic mode and avoid 5th and maybe the trans will survive, or fix the darn thing. At a minimum, i'd check the fluid and possibly do a drain/fill.
Debating 5th gear is silly. If he wants to drive in 4th gear, then go ahead. But it doesn't hide the fact that the transmission needs some service sooner, rather than later. You're asking for a Band-Aid solution rather than properly addressing the problem.
